BONDERITE C-IC 4450

ACID CLEANER
(KNOWN AS RIDOLINE 4450)

Issued 5/31/2013

1. Introduction:

BONDERITE C-IC 4450 (known as RIDOLINE 4450) is a concentrated, liquid, phosphate-free acidic cleaner used on
aluminum and its alloys for cleaning, deoxidizing and micro-etching of the metal surface for activation prior to conversion
coatings and organic finishing. BONDERITE C-IC 4450 (known as RIDOLINE 4450) can also be used on zinc, copper, and
brass for cleaning with oxidation removal. The primary application procedure is enclosed spray washing, however, this
product can also be applied by immersion when utilized at higher concentrations.

4. Equipment:

The process tank, pumps and piping for use with this process solution may be constructed of type 316L or 304L stainless
steel or acid resistant plastic. A secondary choice is 316 or 304 stainless steel fabricated with approved welding
techniques. The heat exchanger plates should be polished 316 stainless steel when using steam or hot water heat. All
process circulating pump seals, valve seats and other elastomers which come in contact with the working process solution
should be Buna-N, CSPE, PTFE or FKM. EPDM elastomers should be avoided.

All chemical pump seals, valve seats, and other elastomers which come in contact with the concentrated solution should
be Buna-N, CSPE, FKM or PTFE.

Support equipment available from Henkel Surface Technologies for this process includes: chemical feed pumps, level
controls, transfer pumps and bulk storage tanks.

Our sales representative should be consulted for information regarding Henkel Corporation automatic process control
equipment or this process and any additional questions.

5. Treating with the BONDERITE C-IC 4450 (known as RIDOLINE 4450) Solution:

Buildup:

Fill the tank about 2/3 full with cold water. For spray processing, a typical solution is prepared by adding 5.0 gallons (19
liters) of BONDERITE C-IC 4450 (known as RIDOLINE 4450) chemical for each 100 gallons of operating volume. For
immersion processing, a typical solution is prepared by adding 10 gallons (38 liters) of BONDERITE C-IC 4450 (known as
RIDOLINE 4450) chemical for each 100 gallons of operating volume. Add water to the operating level, stir thoroughly and
heat to the operating temperature.

Operation:
Temperature: 120 to 160F spray. 140 to 160F, immersion
Time: 30 to 120 seconds, spray. 2 to 5 minutes, immersion
Typical Operation: 5 gallons per 100 gallons, sprayed 60 seconds at 140 F, or 10 gallons per 100 gallons, immersed 3
minutes at 150F.

The initial charge and replenishment data contained herein are normal for most installations; however, our technical
representative may suggest a deviation from this data if indicated by local conditions.

6. Testing and Control:

Never pipet by mouth. Use a pipet filler.

Total Acid:
Pipet a 5 ml sample into a 150-ml beaker. Add approximately 50 ml of distilled water. Add 5 drops of Indicator 3. Titrate
with Titrating Solution 11 to the development of a permanent pink color. The ml of Titrating Solution required indicates the
concentration (total acid) in points.

To raise the total acid 1 point, add approximately 1.5 quarts per 100 gallons of operating bath.
