Each year, the Foundation teaches me the ultimate lesson of empathy, bringing me back to
my experience as an undergrad in the fall of 2003 on the campus of the University of
Georgia.
Thirteen years later, I am always inspired by the sisters we serve. I am inspired by the
ambition in sisters like Tiffany Yi from Loyola University Chicago, who is using her award to
study abroad in Italy to learn new ways to serve the refugee community. I am inspired by the
dedication from sisters like Houa Lee from University of North Carolina Charlotte who work
full-time and attend school full-time, but still make time for excelling in school. I am inspired
by sisters like Le Tran from Georgia Tech, who attended AFLV Central and learned a valuable
lesson in leading by example. Every year, I have the honor and pleasure to come across so
many stories like these.
What I have learned from our young women leaders is that the cost of attending higher Lillie Madali

become self-sustaining, college-educated adults. What I have also learned is there is so
much more that we can do, and like the young women we support, we can do anything if we
put our minds to it. What I love about the Foundation is that through the act of donating, we
have the opportunity to support these young, bright minds in achieving their greatness.
Each sister who receives the gift of a scholarship reports back with gratitude, love for their
sisterhood, and a feeling of support that carries her to achieve her goals. Together, with your
continued generosity, we will be able to achieve our aspirations for 2017. To all our
scholarship recipients past and present, thank you for being an inspiration and a shining light!

Note: A change was made in the 2016 Statement of Financial Position to the assets and liabilities of fiscal year 2015. This difference is due to the change in accounting policy from accrual-based in 2014 to cash-based in 2015. It
is reflected in the scholarship expense in 2014 and the cash on hand in 2015.
