Course Title: The Islamic Worldview Marks: 50 Marks


Course Code: UNGS 2030 Time: 2 ½ hours

Instructions:
a. Answer four questions only. Question one is compulsory.
b. Support your answers with relevant Quranic verses when necessary.

Question One

Shirk or polytheism is regarded as the most grave and unforgivable sin in Islam.
a. Discuss the meaning of al-Shirk and its main forms.
b. What are the modern practices that could be regarded as shirk today?

Question Two
It is He who has sent His messenger with guidance and the religion of the truth. That he
makes it prevail over all religions, even though the Pagans may detest it”. (Q61:9)

a. What do you understand from the above verse?


b. Based on the above verse, discuss the immense need for the institution of
prophethood for man today. What are the major contributions of the prophets in
today’s realities?

Question Three

Write short notes on any two of the followings:

a. Woman related issues in the light of the Islamic worldview, such as their
status, ownership and their rights to inheritance.
b. The role of man in the light of the Islamic worldview
c. Islamic approach towards harmonizing ethnic relation in a multi-religious
society.

Question Four

“Worldviews are three famous categories: Scientific, philosophical and religious” (Ayatullah
Mutahari, Fundamentals of Islamic Thought).
Analyze the differences, advantages and disadvantages of these worldviews from Islamic
perspectives. Which worldview do you think is fit for humanity today and why?

“Globalization is not a single phenomenon but a range of trends and forces are changing the
faces of the world in which we live. (OECD 1997)

a. What do you understand from the above statement?


b. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of globalization in the light of the Islamic
worldview.
