EIGHT OCCURENCES OF MOLOCH in the OT

Leviticus 18:21, 20:2, 3, 4, 5; 1 Kgs 11:7; 2 Kgs 23:10; Jer 32:35

And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou
profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD (Leviticus 18:21).

The Lord said to Moses Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of
the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed
unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with
stones (Leviticus 20:2)

And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people;
because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my
holy name (Leviticus 20:3)

And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of
his seed unto Molech, and kill him not: (Leviticus 20:4)

Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all
that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.
(Leviticus 20:5)

Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill
that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. (1
Kings 11:7)

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man
might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech. (2 Kings 23:10)

And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to
cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I
commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to
cause Judah to sin. (Jeremiah 23:35)

the fire to their gods. (Deuteronomy 12:31)

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through
the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
(Deuteronomy 18:10)

But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire,
according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children
of Israel. (2 Kings 16:3)

And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and
enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to

And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to
Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. (2 Kings 17:31)

And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and
dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD,
to provoke him to anger. (2 Kings 21:6)

Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire,
after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of
Israel. (2 Chronicles 28:3)

And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he
observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and
with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. (2
Chronicles 33:6)

And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to
burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into
my heart. (Jeremiah 7:31)

They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto
Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: (Jeremiah 19:5)

And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause
their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them
not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute
yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of
Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you. (Ezekiel 20:31)

and the land was polluted with blood./ Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a

Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted
my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols./ Wherefore I gave them also statutes
that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;/ And I polluted them in their
own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might
make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel 20: 24-26)

(translated as I defiled them through their very gifts in making them offer all their first-born,
that I might horrify them (Day 211))

The Law of the sacrifice of the first-born sons

That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that
cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'S./ And every firstling of an ass
thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and
all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem. (Exodus 13:12-13)

Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy
sons shalt thou give unto me. (Exodus 22:29)

And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the
firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be
mine;/ Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land
of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I
am the LORD. (Numbers 3:12-13)

And the LORD said unto Moses, Number all the firstborn of the males of the children of Israel
from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names./ And thou shalt take the
Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the
cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel.
(Numbers 3: 40-41)

For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open
every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto
me./ For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I
smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself./ And I have taken the
Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel. (Numbers 8: 16-18)

All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD
thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy
sheep./ Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD
shall choose, thou and thy household. (Deuteronomy 15: 19-20)
And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and
he said, Here am I./ And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto
him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son
from me./ And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a
thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt
offering in the stead of his son. (Genesis 22: 11-13)
