Huang Kan' s Study on Guang yun()

Abstract :H uang Kan made an intensive study on the phonolog ical sy stem of Guangy un .H e drew
the conclusion that Guangy un has 41 i niti al catego ries and 335 f inal cat ego ries , and he made a
com pariso n of Guangy un' s pho no logical sy st em w it h those of ancient ti mes and m odern dialect s .H e
made a sy st ematic research on Guangy un' s diff erent pronunciatio ns sy st em .H e made a compari son of
the f anqies bet ween Guangy un and Xu Xuan .He made a t ho rough collat ion of Guangy un' s
charact ers .Hi s research methods w ere inno vative , some of his co nclusions also had a vi tal beari ng on
academia .
