SUBJECT: Consideration of a resolution granting the Carmel Youth Center a Sunset Center Free
Theater Day on September 10, 2017.

RECOMMENDATION

Adopt the resolution granting the Carmel Youth Center a Sunset Center Free Theater Day on September 10,
2017.

BACKGROUND / SUMMARY

The Citys Amended and Restated Lease Agreement with Sunset Cultural Center (SCC), adopted by the City
Council on June 6, 2017, stipulates that the City shall have the right to use the Sunset Center theater, lobby and
dressing rooms for up to twelve (12) full days (designated in the Lease Agreement as Free Theater Days) each
fiscal year without charge, provided that the spaces have not already been committed by SCC to rental
customers.

The Carmel Youth Center (CYC), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, is requesting one of the Citys Free
Theater Days for an annual fundraising event to be held September 10, 2017. CYC has signed a contract with
Sunset Center for the use of the plaza, terrace and theater lobby for the event.

Granting the Carmel Youth Center one of the Sunset Center Free Theater Days will result in a significant
savings in facility use fees for the organization.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact.

PRIOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION

At the July 11, 2017 meeting the City Council granted a Sunset Center Free Theater Day to the Carmel
International Film Festival on Thursday, October 19, 2017.

We are the only recreational center for the children of our city. We are in need of financial

assistance for the Carmel Youth Center.

We understand the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea allows a set number of evenings at The Sunset

Center at no charge for non-profit groups.

We have a confirmed date of 9/10/17 at The Sunset Center. The Carmel Youth Center is a non-

profit organization and we respectfully request approval for our annual fund-raising event,

utilizing one of the no-charge event dates.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA GRANTING THE

CARMEL YOUTH CENTER A SUNSET CENTER FREE THEATER DAY ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2017.

THE-SEA DOES HEREBY:

Adopt a resolution granting the Carmel Youth Center a Sunset Center Free Theater Day on
September 10, 2017.

PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA this
8th day of August, 2017 by the following roll call vote:
