Active and passive voice exercise

Steps in changing active to passive voice


Step 1. Exchange subject and object position, add by to the object in passive voice
1. He made a papercraft.
A papercraft ..by him.
2. They will take the package tomorrow.
The package . by them tomorrow.
3. Fido is repairing my bicycle right now.
My bicycle by Fido right now.
4. Carla has grown some tomatoes in the back yard.
Some tomatoes . by Carla in the back yard.
Step 2. Identify the main verb (the verb at the most right hand position) and change into be+V3 the remaining stay
the same close to the subject. Match with the subject agreement if necessary.
1. He made a papercraft.
A papercraft (be+V3) by him.
2. They will take the package tomorrow.
The package will (be+V3) by them tomorrow.
3. Fido is repairing my bicycle right now.
My bicycle is (be+V3)by Fido right now.
4. Carla has grown some tomatoes in the back yard.
Some tomatoes have (be+V3) by Carla in the back yard. subject agreement tomatoes and have not

Step 3. The be form must match with the main verb form.

Step 4. Add V 3 of the main verb
1. He made a papercraft. (V 2)
A papercraft was made by him.
2. They will take the package tomorrow.(V base)
The package will be taken by them tomorrow.
3. Fido is repairing my bicycle right now.(V-ing)
My bicycle is being repaired by Fido right now.
4. Carla has grown some tomatoes in the back yard.(V-3)
Some tomatoes have been grown by Carla in the back yard.
