(a). Obtain the Strain-displacement equations in polar coordinates with figure. ( 5 Marks)
(b). Prove that the function = Ar4cos4 +Br4cos2 qualifies as a stress function. (5 Marks)

(a). An alloy steel cylinder has 100 mm internal diameter and 400 mm outside diameter. If it
is subjected to an internal pressure of 150 MPa, (outside pressure = 0) obtain the radial and
tangential stress distribution and plot them. (8 Marks)
(b). Write down the relations for radial and tangential stresses for a large plate with a small
hole. (2 Marks)
3. Derive the expressions of stress distribution for a curved beam with rectangular cross
section. (10 Marks)

(a). Explain Shear centre of flexure. (4 Marks)
(b). For the bracket shown in figure, apply the strain energy principle and calculate the
displacement along the direction of load P. (6 Marks)
