Course description

The Purpose of JAG Nevada is to assist students in earning a high school diploma with the skills to excel in the workforce
and/or postsecondary education. JAG stands for Jobs for Americas Graduates and is nationally accredited.

Course Objective

The objective of JAG is for students to master thirty-seven competencies. These competencies fall under six categories:
1. Career Development
2. Job Attainment
3. Job Survival
4. Basic Skills,
5. Leadership and Self-Development
6. Personal Skills
Once students have demonstrated appropriate gains in these areas, they will have garnered the necessary knowledge to
pursue gainful employment, enter post-secondary education, or technical education.

Students are expected to:

Conduct themselves as they would on a job.

Be respectful to themselves and to others.
Be prepared for class and all activities required by the course.
Participate in classroom, Career Association, service activities and all other activities.
Uphold school regulations such as dress code, cell phone policies, etc

General Requirements

Attendance: Attendance is necessary for success in this class. Be on time.

Participation: Students are expected to participate in class. This includes all in class and out-of-class activities
and class discussions.
Volunteer Hours: Students are expected to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of community service
(volunteer activities with are not paid or required to satisfy outside of school programs) throughout the school
year. Minimum of five (5) per semester. Community service logs will be due at the end of the semester.
Guest Speakers: Career and community involvement are integral parts of the JAG Program: they enhance
learning by providing various experiences and exposure to different career paths. Students are expected to take
advantage of their resources and reach out to business leaders. Students are expected to advocate for
themselves and ask for speakers of various fields to come and talk to the class. It is expected that student
behavior will be courteous and respectful whenever guests are present. It will also be advantageous for students
to take good notes during speaking engagements as an assignment will follow each event. If students choose not
to be respectful to guest speakers, alternative research assignments will be assigned.
Field Trips: Field trips are a wonderful way for students to be exposed to different colleges and places of work.
Different companies take time out of their working schedule to show students around and answer questions.
Students are expected to conduct themselves professionally and be respectful to the speakers as they are on
these field trips. They are also encouraged to bring questions as they explore the many different fields for post-
graduation. Students who choose not to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully will be given an
alternate research assignment and will not attend the next field trip.

was excused. The number of days missed + 1 day will be allowed to complete the work missed. It will be the
students responsibility to obtain and complete the makeup work on his/her own time. This includes projects

the work will not be accepted for credit. Quizzes must be made up within a one-week period.
