COURSE DESCRIPTION In Grade 8, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1) formulating and reasoning
about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving
linear equations and systems of linear equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe
quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing two and threedimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and
congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.

Homework/Late Homework Policy:


Homework should be expected most every night during the week. Homework will not always be
graded, but may be randomly and/or occasionally be graded. There is NO late homework accepted in
8th grade Math. The primary purpose of homework is to help the students practice learned skills and
follow up with any questions in class with the teacher. Students will NOT be successful on any type of
in class assessment (daily grade, quiz, test, etc) if they have not been CONSISTENTLY completing
homework assignments.

Attendance Excused Absence Policy:


Students who are granted Excused Absent status for days missed will be subject to the following:
All pre-assigned work will be due on the day of a students return from an absence. For example, if a student is
absent on the day of a test/quiz and no new material has been presented, the student is expected to be prepared
to take the test/quiz on the day they return to school. If a student misses the day before a scheduled test and no
new material is presented, the student is expected to make up the test at its regularly scheduled time.
For assignments which did not have a pre-assigned due date during the time of the students absence, students
will be given five days to arrange for makeup work or follow other arrangements granted by the teacher.

Cheating will not be tolerated on any assignment. If a student is caught cheating they will immediately receive the following
consequences:
