Course Description
The level 1 Morning Class includes all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking,

and listening. We will study vocabulary and grammar that will help you describe people

and events, and to give and receive instructions. We will use phrasal verbs and

collocations in conversation and writing, and collaborate with classmates on a group

project. Students are responsible for a reflection journal to be discussed in class.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course I will be able to

use new vocabulary to make my writing and speaking more imaginative and
descriptive.

identify the main idea in texts and paragraphs.

use language to express my ideas and opinions.

write a simple story or description of event using basic time expressions.

identify key details in a simple recorded dialogue or narrative.

Course Units and Objectives

Law & Justice

Students will:
ask simple questions to find out about a subject.
read a simple text and extract factual details.
get the gist of short, simple stories if told slowly and clearly.
write short basic descriptions of past events and activities.
identify specific info in simple brochures and short articles.

The Environment
Students will:
write short, basic descriptions of people, places and things.
ask simple questions in a face-to-face survey.
use basic connectors like and, but, so & then.
make basic inferences from simple information in a short text.

Culture
Students will:
write a simple story or description of an event using basic time expressions.
Describe peoples everyday lives using a short series of simple phrases and
expressions.
Understand short, simple narratives and biographies.
Give an example of something in a very simple text using like or for example.

Indigenous Canadians
Students will:
Can read a simple text and extract factual details.
Can understand short, simple narratives and biographies.
Can write short basic descriptions of past events and activities.

Can follow short, simple social exchanges.
Can ask simple questions to find out about a subject.

Important Policies

Attendance and Punctuality: Students are required to attend all classes.

Students who arrive up to 15 minutes late are marked late, those who
arrive more than 15 minutes late will be marked absent.

Assignments and Tests: Students are required to complete all

assignments and tests as scheduled in the course outline. Students who
miss a test or assignment will receive 0 unless they provide the program
coordinator a doctors note.

Cell Phone Use: Students may use their cell phones in class for learning
purposes only.

English Only Policy: Students are required to speak English at all times
during class.

Participation: Students are required to participate in all class activities.
