Who is esvara?

Isvara is that special Self which is unaffected ( aparamrsta) by one's obstacles/hardships ( klesha), one's circumstances
created by past or one's current actions ( karma), one's life fruits (vipka), and one's psychological intentions ( ashaya).

Patanjali's concept of Isvara is neither a creator God nor the universal Absolute

What are chitta vrittis?

Patanjali actually describes the five fluctuations (functions) of the mind (or five vrittis) to help us better understand
the workings of the mind. He says these five vrittis can be painful or non-painful. They are:

1. Valid Cognition (Pramana)


2. Misconception (Viparyaya)
3. Imagination (Vikalpa)
4. Sleep (Nidra)
5. Memory (Smriti)

What are Sapta Dhatus?

The seven Dhatus:


1. Rasa Plasma
2. Rakta Blood Tissue
3. Mamsa Muscle Tissue
4. Meida Adipose Tissue, Fat
5. Asthi Bone Tissue
6. Majja Bone Marrow, Nerve Tissue
7. Shukra Semen, Reproductive Tissue

Obstacles of Mind in Rajayoga?

There are several obstacles to meditation. Vedanta describes the obstacles to


be Laya, Vikshepa, Kashaya and Rasasvada. Patanjali says: "Disease, dullness, doubt, carelessness,
laziness, worldly-mindedness, illusion, missing the point, unstability - these are obstacles in Yoga."

What is tapatrayas?

The word Tpatraya refers to the three (traya) kinds of evils (tpa), namely, adhibhautika (those caused by the physical
nature), such as famine, floods, storm, etc., adhidaivika (those caused by the gods and goddesses when they become angry with
man due to his indifference to them) such as small pox, etc; and adhytmika(those caused neither by nature nor by gods and
goddesses but by man himself due to his greed, lust, anger, arrogance, etc.) such as, for example, indigestion due to eating more
than necessary; in fact, all result of karma are adhyatmika tapas.
What is Hari om tat sat?
Hari means one who attracts !
Tat means inexplicable almighty !
Sat means truth !

What is Mahabhandas?
Maha Bhanda or the Great- Lock. This technique consists in the application of three locks at the same time while holding
the breath out in perfect posture and concentration.

Moola Bandha (Root Lock), Uddiyana Bandha (The Abdominal Lock) and Jalandhara Bandha (The Chin Lock)

What are panchapranas?

These pancha pranas are categorized as: Prana vayu, Apana vayu, Samana vayu, Udana vayuand Vyana vayu

1. Prana Vayu while Prana is the general name of the life force, the prana vayu is one of its specific
functions. Prana vayu literally means forward moving air and moves inward toward the center of the body.
2. Apana Vayu Apana vayu translates as the air that moves away. The dominant energy of Apana vayu is a
downward and outward movement. It's energy moves primarily in the lower abdomin from the navel to the floor
of the pelvis
3. Samana Vayu Is literally the balancing air Moves primarily in the region between the navel and the heart
(solar plexus), and its seat is said to be in the navel. It is the controlling power of the metabolism or digestive
fire and the functioning of the digestive organs and glands
4. Udana Vayu Udana is "that which carries upward." It rules the region of the throat and head,and is seated
specifically in the throat. It also rules muscle function and strength in the extremities as well as the sensory
function of the eyes, ears and nose.
5. Vyana Vayu literally means outward moving air and moves from the center of the body out to the periphery.
This vayu pervades the whole body, and is a coordinating, connecting force.

What are shatchakras?

There are six Chakras. Muladara is in the anus. Svadhishthana is near the genital organ. Manipura is in the navel. Anahata is in the heart. The
Vishuddhi Chakra is at the root of the neck. The sixth Chakra, the Ajna is in the head (between the two eyebrows).

What are shatdarshanas?

There are 6 Darsans called shat darsanas:


1. Nyaya founded by sage Gautama,
2.Vaiseshika by sage Kanada,
3. Sankhya by sage Kapila Muni,
4. Yoga by Patanjali Maharshi,
5. Purva Mimamsa by Jaimini, and
6.Uttara Mimamsa or Vedanta by sageVyasa
What are pancha mahavakyas?

Sanskrit: English:

1. Brahma satyam jagan mithya Brahman is real; the world is unreal

2. Ekam evadvitiyam brahma Brahman is one, without a second

3. Prajnanam brahman Brahman is the supreme knowledge

4. Tat tvam asi That is what you are

5. Ayam atma brahma Atman and brahman are the same

6. Aham brahmasmi I am brahman

7. Sarvam khalvidam brahma All of this is brahman

What is shat sampathi?

SHAMA is inner silence and calmness

DAMA means self-control

SHRADDH is trust

UPARATI means to rise above things by not being dependent or being afraid

TITIKSH is equanimity and inner strength

SAMDHNA means inner composure and the ability to remain focused on ones goal.

Ajna Chakra is called GURU chakra

What are dualities? Sukhadukhaa, seethoshna, maana avamaana

The word tantra means to weave or expand. Tantra yoga is practised in order to connect with others and the universe.
sanskrit word origin, tanoti means expansion, trayathi means liberation.
