Course Information
Course Title: HC815-02: Holistic Medicine for Obesity and Tobacco Prevention
Lecture Hours: 1 hours per session - 4 hours total per 3-week session
Class Times: Thursdays 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. August 17th; 24th; and 31st, 2017
Course Cost: Free open to anyone interested in learning about holistic health
Office Hours: Mondays & Thursdays 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Rm. 2808
Course Description: This holistic medicine course will focus on complementary and
alternative medicine (CAM) modalities to decrease and prevent obesity and tobacco use.
The goal is for each individual to identify, understand and utilize the modality(s) which are
of interest to them on a day-to-day basis, as these actions aid in the healing process. These
sessions are for informational purposes, always consult your physician before starting any
form of treatments.
All handouts will be provided by the instructor at the beginning and end of each session.
Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a journal, pen/paper, and bottled water daily; and
your yoga mats will be needed for the third session. Healthy snacks are encouraged, but
peanuts are not allowed, due to food allergens.
Grading
Non-graded, but hours can be converted into CEUs (continuing education credit).
Sessions
I. Session one (1) will define holistic medicine and explain its principles;
complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) will be defined, with its history
further explained; and how both have been integrated into Western medicine.
II. For the second session, we will discuss several CAM modalities for preventing and
decreasing obesity.
III. The third session will discuss several CAM modalities for preventing and decreasing
the use of tobacco.
