Procedure For AGMS Bellow
Topic
Integrity Test. Issue No. 1 01-01-2009
Scope:

The AGMS bellows are to be reused after EMCCR. Accordingly it has been
planned to check the healthiness of these bellows. The visual and dimensional
checks have already been done and about 25% i.e. 153 bellows will be checked
for their leak tightness by air hold test. The bellows selected for this test are as
per the approved list.

Prerequisites:

1. Lattice tube and calandria tube cleaning is completed.

2. Bellow cleaning has been done and it has been confirmed that there is no
foreign material in the bellow convolutions.

Procedure:

The object of this exercise is to check the pressure tightness of AGMS bellows
.The tool designed for this will close both sides of the bellows and will make
pressure tight cavity. The sealing surfaces selected are before the AGMS tubing
on SS end piece at one end and CS end piece at other end. The procedure is as
follows.
1. Two studs will be tightened on End Shield holes of SAA; these studs will
make insertion of integrity checking tool insertion easier. Also, these will
compress the bellows once the tool has been inserted with the aid of nuts.
2. Put the bellow healthiness checking tool into the bellow and tight the nut
on studs of end shield this will compress the bellow to 215mm.
3. Tight the nut of integrity checking tool to inflate the rubber sheets of the
tool.
4. Pressurize the bellow to 0.5 Kg./cm2 by slowly opening the needle valve
provided on the tool
5. Keep the bellow pressurized for 30 mins.
6. Observe the drop in pressure.
7. If the pressure maintains same the tested bellow is O.K. If the pressure is
found dropping Lisapol Soap solution is to be sprayed on bellows
convolutions to check for puncture.
8. In case soap solution test is done the bellow is to be cleaned by DM water
soaked cloth thoroughly.

Acceptance criteria

The bellow will be treated as qualified if no pressure drop is onserved. The QA

representative will witness the entire activity and will certify the qualified bellows.
