Background about Geogebra

GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics
software for schools that joins geometry,
algebra and calculus. On the one hand,
GeoGebra is an interactive geometry
system. You can do constructions with
points, vectors, segments, lines, polygons
and conic sections as well as functions
while changing them dynamically
afterwards. On the other hand, equations
and coordinates can be entered directly. Thus, GeoGebra has the ability to deal with variables
for numbers, vectors and points. It finds derivatives and integrals of functions and offers
commands like Root or Vertex.

Purpose of the module

This module will guide you in using Geogebra as teaching and learning mathematics from
middle school to college. It covers the geometric tools, commands and selection of a Geogebra
features. Thus, there will be given mathematical topics which will help you familiarize the
function of this software.

Hope you will find it useful.

Thank you!

LETS TRY!

POLYGONS AND ANGLES

TASK: Construct a triangle and measure the sum of the interior angles.

Procedures:

First: From the toolbar, select polygon.

Second: In the graphic view area, create a triangle by plotting three points
which will serve as the vertices of the polygon. (In order to close the polygon, do not forget to click the
first point/vertex)

Third: From the toolbar, select angle then select three vertices clockwise (if you want to measure the
interior angle) and counter clockwise(for exterior angle). (continue this process until all angles have
been measured)

Fourth: In the input bar, type ++ by selecting it on the dropdown list.

Fifth: Lastly, click select and the interior angle will be computed by the Geogebra.

PERPENDICULAR AND PARALLEL LINES

TASK 1: Construct a line perpendicular to a given line and through a given point.

Procedures:

First: From the toolbar, click line then select segment.

Second: On the graphic view, construct the line segment.

Third: From the toolbar, select point.

12
Introduction to Geogebra

Fourth: Construct a point on the line segment.

Fifth: From the toolbar, select perpendicular line.

Sixth: Lastly, construct a perpendicular line by clicking on the point and line on the graphic view.

TASK 2: Construct a line parallel to a given line and through a given point.

Procedures:

First: From the toolbar, click line then select segment.

Second: Construct the segment on graphics.

Third: From the toolbar, select point.

Fourth: Construct the point not on the line segment.

Fifth: Lastly, from the toolbar select parallel line and click on the point and on the line.
