program name on the same channel (any day).

Country/Region Each country corresponds to a data set

that can be subscribed, entirely or for a part of it. Few
countries have several data sets corresponding to regions. In
reality, they behave like they were separate countries, so when
we talk about countries, we are talking about countries and
regions. They only differ in the labeling/identification.

Level Program data has a field called level. A level 1

program is a magazine (e.g. a childrens program) which
contains several programs at level 2 (teenage sitcom, several
cartoons, etc). Each broadcasted program has a specific level.

Multi-Country - As multi-country we mean the use of data of

several countries and/or data providers for the same analysis.

Genre Each country has a set of codes representing the

genres: for example sport in Germany. This can exist in a
multilevel classification, for example, sport => sport ball
=>sport football.

The genres classification can change over a period of time.In a

specific country, a genres classification is updated from time to
time.

Important note: When you a query over a period with two

different genre classifications, if the user wishes to use a filter
on genres, he will have to select the genres from both
classifications to get complete results.

by EurodataTV in the Admin module. The purpose is to have a

set of common genres that allow a multi-country analysis over

equivalent genres across countries. For example, a genre
called fiction can be a genre group, where for one country it
corresponds to one single genre but in another country it is
compound by two genres.

Target Group These are virtual targets created and

managed by EurodataTV in the Admin module. The purpose is
to have a set of common targets that allow a multi-country
analysis over equivalent targets across countries. For example,
a target called Male 15-35 can be a target group, having or
not a corresponding one on each country database.

Time Period Interception When you run a List/Grid

analysis based on Time periods, you can set an Interception
value to customize your needs. By default, the interception
value is equal to 2 Minutes.

Competition Program competition, that is, the programs

that are broadcasted at the same time as the original program
on other channels. The user may define competition in two
ways:

The default settings (Minutes and Percentage, in the section

Competition Interception) are defined in MyProfile\Settings, tab
Time and Periods .

When you want to change them, you can:

- Either change the default settings in MyProfile\Settings to
apply it.
- Either change it for one specific query only, in List output,
upper bar, option/Competition Interception.

Lead In/Out Programs before (in) or after (out) competing

ones, in chronological terms.

The Lead In or Lead Out can lead to several programs and not
only one program.

The default settings (Minimum duration and Interval) are

defined in MyProfile\Settings, tab Times and Periods .

When you want to change them you can:

- Either change the default settings in MyProfile\Settings to
apply it for any new query.
- Either change it for one specific query only, in List Output,
upper bar, option/Lead In-Out.

Preliminary data The data provider has the ability to send

data to Mediametrie that is not considered final and complete.
EurodataTV, through the use of the Converter module, can tag
the corresponding date range as preliminary, reflecting this
information to the clients application that can use this data,
but should warn the user about it being preliminary and not
final data.

Timeband Data The data provider may also provide quarter

hour data, typically a set of virtual broadcasts, called time
divisions, with associated audiences. For example, ranging
from 02:00-02:15, 02:15-02:30, 02:30-02:45,.., 25:45-26:00.

Although most of this type of data is available of 15 minutes

split, it can be available with other splits, like 1 or 5 minutes.

TV Day Concept Each data source from a data provider has

a specific start and end time of the day. So, each program
aired has a different time representation from country to
country. For instance, one country considers the TV Day from
02:00 to 26:00, and another one from 03:00 to 27:00 instead
of the common 00:00 to 24:00 (Reference Time). The data
must keep this singular representation in a single country
analysis, but must also have a common representation in order
to be used in a multi-country.

5.2 Indicators

Indicators are variables that are computed using certain data fields
corresponding to media audience values. Where a single formula is
available for computation for a single broadcasted program record,
some rules must be taken in account when working with totals or
averaging of several broadcasted program records.
Formulas to use for a single broadcast record (program or quarter
hour)
Average audience rate (Rat%): part of a broadcast watched by
a target
Ex: a person older than 15 years watched in average 9% of the
program journal TV
Individual average time viewing (Ivt):
Time average spent watching a channel by a set of individuals
during a period. IVT is given in minutes.

For a specific program: Ivt(target) = [rat% (target) * programs

duration(in sec)] / 60 /100

Average audience in thousands individuals (Rat#): number

of viewers in thousands of a particular broadcast on a specific day
and channel.
Ex: The movie "Gladiator" has been watched by 1521 thousand of
people on the channel "SVT1" in Sweden.
Audience share (Shr%): part of broadcast audience in the
global TV audience
Ex: Le program "journal de 20h" had 25% of listeners as
individuals 15+.
Total TV rating (TtvRat%): TV average audience in percentage
during a period.

Total TV rating (TtvRat#): TV average audience in thousands

during a period.

73

Affinity (Aff%): average audience rate for a specific target

divided by the average audience rate for the reference target, for a
specific channel and period

Aff% = (rat% target / rat% reference target) x 100

Attractivity (Att%): audience share for a specific target divided

by the audience share for a reference target, for a specific channel
and period

attractivity = (Shr% target / Shr% reference target) x 100

Adhesion index (Pro%): average audience rate for a specific

target divided by the average audience rate for the reference
target, for a specific channel and period
Pro% = (rat# target / rat# reference target) x 100

Reach rate (Rch%): percentage of people who had at least one

contact with the channel C during a specific period (any length of
duration).
Reach in thousands individuals (Rch#): number of people who
had at least one contact with the channel C during a specific period
(any length of duration).
Assiduity (Ass%): proportion of time spent watching the channel
C by a target on a specific period

Assiduity = (rat% / rch%) x 100

Time Spent Viewing (Tsv):

Avg(Tsv min) = ( Avg(Ivt min) / Avg(Rch%) ) x 100

Formulas for a set of broadcast records (averages)

1) Rat% (Ratings), Rat#, Ttv Rat% (Total TV), Ttv Rat#

Avg (Indicator%) = (b1_value * b1_length + b2_value *
b2_length) / (b1_length + b2_length)
2) Shr% (market shares)
Avg (Shr%) = ( Avg (Rat#) / Avg (Ttv Rat#) ) * 100
3) Tsv min (Time spent viewing):
Avg(Tsv min) = Avg(Ivt min) / Avg(Rch%)
4) Rch%, Rch# (reach), Ivt min
Avg (Indicator%) = (b1_value + b2_value) / 2
Avg(Indicator min) =(b1_value + b2_value) / 2

5) Aff% (affinity), Att% (attractivity), Pro% (profile),

Ass% (assiduity)
Avg (Aff%) = ( Avg (Rat%) / Avg (Rat%(ref_target)) ) * 100
Avg (Att%) = ( Avg (Shr%) / Avg (Shr%(ref_target)) ) * 100
Avg (Pro%) = ( Avg (Rat#) / Avg (Rat#(ref_target)) ) * 100
Avg(Ass%) = ( Avg(rat%) / Avg(rch%) ) x 100
