Precarious people behind the wheel
W
hen Californians take
their drivers test, are
they not taught to use
their signal light 100
feet before the turn and to not
use high beams when within city
limits?
And here I was thinking only
Southerners were bad when it
came to obeying the laws of the
road, but now I can infer that
Californians are granted their
drivers license straight out of
the cereal box.
How much do you hate property taxes?

any people
in my
hometown
have been
freaking out over their
property tax appraisals,
so it was timely that
I discovered a Motley
Fool article titled Why
Property Taxes Are
The Most Hated Levy In
America.
First, a couple of dis-
claimers. Since I have a
child in public school,
I have not felt particu-
larly overwhelmed by
my own tax bill. And Im
truly appreciative of a
conscientious county
employee who got two
worthless buildings re-
moved from my moth-
ers tax appraisal.
Still, I can see why a
survey conducted by
Gallup, CNN and USA
Today a decade ago de-
clared the property tax
to be the most despised
tax by more than a two-
to-one margin.
It is hard to wrap your
mind around the logic
of some taxes. Sure,
sin taxes indulge our

Patrick Wyatt Firquain
October 15, 1949-March 14, 2017
Patrick Wyatt Firquain age 67 of
Blythe CA entered into rest March
14, 2017
The Firquain family moved to
Blythe in the 50s where Pat
learned a hard work ethic from his
father cleaning class rooms after
school at the old high school on
the mesa. He was an FFA
member showing cattle at the
local fair. Around the same time
he developed a passion for cars
and racing.He worked at his Dads
Mobil station for several years
until his induction into the service. Pat served in the U.S.
army with valor as a scout dog handler and awarded a
Bronze Star. Upon his return from military service he
enjoyed time with family and friends.
Pat held numerous jobs during his lifetime, a mechanic
carpenter machinist. Not a thing he couldn't repair. He
participated for many years in off road races, and also
worked on a pit crew for a national sprint car team.
Also a member of the Blythe JayCees.
Pat was a selfless man who would help anybody with
any project. Some of his passions include his KZ900
kawasaki motorcycle all the trips with friends his red
jeep, the Nordic jet boat with the 482 ci fast motor,
uncountable races attended..
Pat is survived by his niece Ashley White, nephew
Micheal Firquain and a step niece Vanessa White and
three great step nephews
Pat is preceded in death by his parents Bonny and
Pauline Firquain and his brother Mike Firquain.
Celebration of life will be held at the American Legion
147 N Ash St. Blythe CA on June 17, at noon.

Gearldine Lizzie Sutterfield
May, 2017-March 1923
At 1155AM on May 27, 2017,
God called home Gearldine
Lizzie Sutterfield of Las
Vegas, NV (Formerly of Palo
Verde, CA) to be with her
husband Lloyd Ray
Sutterfield. Gearldine died
peacefully surrounded by her
loving family.
Funeral services will be held
at a date to be determined in
Yuma, AZ.; where she will be
reunited with Lloyd at Desert
Lawn Memorial Park, 1415 S.
1st Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364.
In remembrance, we know
Mom would ask you to show
love to someone in need in
your family. Having a loving family was the greatest of
all things to her.
Gearldine was born in March 1923, Jay, Oklahoma; to
Lloyd Faust Kissire (Deceased) and Ruthana Hickman
(Deceased). She had a half-sister, Betty Joe Kissire
(Deceased) from the marriage of Lloyd and Dicey May
Kissire (Deceased). Gearldine married Lloyd Ray
Sutterfield on August 30, 1939 and remained married for
almost Fifty years till Lloyds death in February 1989.
Gearldine was a multi-talented lady who could do
anything and was involved heavily in the Palo Verde
Southern Baptist Church as a Youth Leader/Sunday
School Teacher while serving as Secretary and
Treasurer over the life of the church for 52 years. She
served in leadership roles in the Palo Verde Rod and
Gun Club, Blythe Historical Society and Blythe Senior
Womens Club. In her early years she worked as a
Seamstress, owning her own Dry Cleaning and Sewing
Business in Yuma, Wellton, and Palo Verde. She
worked for the Post Office for over 17 years, retiring as
the Palo Verde Postmaster. She also owned and
operated the Sleepy Burrow Caf in Palo Verde and was
a dedicated farm wife to Lloyd.
Survivors include her four Children: Robert and wife
Shirley of Yuma, AZ.; Virginia Sue Adkins and husband
William Jr. (Bill) of Selma, CA; Thomas and wife Gelen
of Las Vegas, NV; and Stephen and wife Yvette
Pouquette of Blythe, CA. Gearldine has 14
grandchildren: Regina, Sandy, Vena, Ronnie, Charles
Lloyd, Jason, James, Crystal, Mallory, Mike, Bryant,
Sabrina and Luke. She has 20 great grandchildren:
Robert, Tamela, Heather, Jere, Shawna, Cody, Shirley,
Darlene, Jaymi, Kathleen, Addison, Marisa, Joshua,
Dillon, Samantha, Cole, Taylor, Tatum, Tanner, and
Tyler. Gearldine has 16 great-great grandchildren: Leo
Jr., Zayden, Kaylianna, Victoria, Aniah, Isaiah, Nevaeh,
Christopher, Kadence, Micaiah, Sarah, Aiden, Noah,
Kialee, Roman, Isabella, Logan, Jere and Ali. Gearldine
was preceded in death by a Grandson, Robert Jr. and
one Great Granddaughter, Christy.
Gearldine lived an exemplary life and her faith in God
successfully pulled her through many of lifes trials and
tribulations. She was the guiding light of her family and
her legacy will continue through the lives of her
offspring.
Until we meet her again, we give praise to God and pray
he will continue to bless us.
