COSTING FOR EARTHWORK (volume calculated using AutoCivil 8.5)

Project :
Proposed Housing Developemtn on Lots 513, 514, 515, 516 & 517 at Taman Sayang Selasih Phase 2, Mukim Klebang Besar,
Daerah Melaka Tengah, Melaka, between Perbandaran Kemajuan Negeri Melaka and Keat Bean Cosntruction Sdn. Bhd.

Basic of Design
The following data are calculated using programme AutoCAD 2000 (with VBA) and AutoCivil 8.5 (module AutoDTM)
Grid spacing used in the calculation - X direction = 5m, Y direction = 5m (Area for each cell = 5x5 = 25m)
Existing Ground Level - highest level = 208m ODL, lowest level = 103m ODL
Proposed Earthwork Level - highest level = 157.5m ODL, lowest level = 104.5mODL
Gradient for Propose Slope- Cut = 1:1.75, Fill = 1:2

A) Earthwork Area
Area with NO Earthwork = 4,075 m2 = 43,862 ft2
Area for FILL = 2,153 m2 = 23,174 ft2
Area for CUT = 47,650 m2 = 512,888 ft2
Total Area = 53,878 m2 = 579,924 ft2

B) Earthwork Volume
Shrinkage Factor = 0.0 % (on FILL earth)
Swelling Factor = 0.0 % (on CUT earth)
Surface Loss = 0.00 m Surface loss at FILL area = 0 m3
Surface loss at CUT area = 0 m3

Calculated Volume Adjusted Volume

FILL(positive value) = 2,893 m3 2,893 m3
CUT (Negative value) = -984,557 m3 -984,557 m3
Access Earthwork = -981,664 m3 -981,664 m3 (-ve denote ACCESS CUT)
Note:
Adjusted FILL volume = (Caculated FILL volume + Surface loss at FILL area) * Shrinkage factor
Adjusted CUT volume = (Caculated CUT volume - Surface loss at CUT area) * Swelling factor

C) Earthwork Rate
Cut and Fill at same site = 1.50 RM per m3
Access Earthwork = 6.00 RM per m3 (ACCESS CUT)

D) Earthwork COST
Cut and Fill at same site = 2,893 * 1.50 = 4,339.50 RM
Access Earthwork = 981,664 * 6.00 = 5,889,984.00 RM
TOTAL COST = 5,894,323.50 RM

Cost per m2 = 109.40 RM

Cost per ft 2
= 10.16 RM

Basic Data for Earthwork Costing

The basic data for Earthwork Costing is stated below:
These data can be obtained using
- Manual calculation (suitable and faster for small area)
- Calculate using AutoCivil + AutoCAD 2000 (with VBA). The procedure is stated in below hyperlink:
\\NT98\_SOFTWRE_000\Design_Software_000xxx\I_Earthwork_design_using_autocad+autocivil_000xxx\Procedure to do ear

1) Earthwork Area (plan view) - total of the following 3 area:

- Area with NO earthwork
- Area for FILL
- Area for CUT

How to obtain the data?

For manual calculation, the above 3 area can be obtained by:
- Measure manually on the printed drawing (the draiwng must be printed to a known scale), or
- Using AutoCAD to check. The boundary line of cut and fill area must be transferred to the computer file drawing
first.

For calculation using AutoCivil, the cell (drawn in 3D face) for the above 3 area are in different colors:
- Area with NO earthwork = YELLOW color cell
- Area for FILL = GREEN color cell
- Area with CUT earthwork = RED color cell
To obtain the area, say, for FILL area, peform the following task:
- Select all cells | Click Menu "Tools" | Click "Quick Select"
- In "Quick Select" dialog box | Select Apply to "Current Selection" | Select Object Type "3D face" | Select Properties
"Color" | Select Operater "= Equals" | Select Value "Green" (for FILL area) | Select "Include in new selection set" |
OK

- The number of cell for FILL area (in GREEN color) can be seen in the pull down menu in Properties Dialog Box.

- Area for FILL = The number of cell for FILL area X area of a cell

2) Earthwork Volume
- FILL volume (+ve value)
- CUT volume (-ve value)

Access Earthwork = CUT volume + FILL volume

(+ve = Access FILL, -ve = Access CUT)

How to obtain the data?

Quantity of Earthwork obtain from manual calculation or AutoCivil programme.

3) Factor on Earthwork Volume:

- Shrinkage factor = % (+ve value) of earth shrink during FILLING time. It increase FILL volume. (FILL
volume become more +ve)
- Swelling factor = % (+ve value) of earth swell during CUTTING time. It increase CUT volume. (CUT
volume become more -ve)
- Surface Loss = Loss of earth (in "m") from the surface of existing ground during earthwork time. The
unwanted top soil that not suitable for backfill is treated as Surface Loss also. It
increae Access Earthwork Volume. In other work it will reduce the access CUT, or
increase the access FILL

Readme - 362900848.xls

Unless proper compaction can be done during FILLING time, or else the Swelling factor is always bigger than Shrinkage
factor
In most of the case we assume there is no Shringkage factor and Swelling factor, as the differences may be very little (we
have yet to receive any complaint from site on the Earthwork quantity we provide, due to the above 2 factor)

Surface loss - loss of earthwork during earhtwork time is difficult to be estimated. It need the input from the Contractor.
However, we can assume 300mm of surface loss for the top layer of soil, which may consist of plant and material that not
suitable for backfil.
(To be further improved)

4) Rate of Earthwork (2 different rates)

- Rate for Earthwork volume being CUT and FILL back at the same site.
The rate involve is the machinery and labour cost. It should be the rates for the minimum value of the
total CUT volume and total FILL volume
- Rate for Access CUT or FILL
Beside machinery and labour, it involve cost of transportation which depend on the distance from the site
to the place for throwing (for access CUT) or bring in (for access FILL) the earht. It should be the rates
for the difference between total CUT and total FILL

How to obtain the data?

The rate of Earthwork, especially rate for Access CUT or FILL, is varying for every site. It depend on location of site,
requirement on supply (for access FILL) or demand (for access CUT) of earth from surrounding area and etc.

It is advisible to liase with the contractor or developer to obtain the exact Rate.
Normally, we can use
Rate of CUT and FILL at same site = RM1.50 per m^3
Rate of access CUT or FILL = RM6.00 per m^3
