House L & W
Residential renovation - Gent
Termination Date: 05.2016
Contribution: Design & coordination

This 190-square-meter row house suffered from a lack of light and openness. We removed
the partition walls in order to create an entirely new spatial layout. The bathroom is
relocated to the first floor. The old outbuildings at the back of the house made way for a new
compact house extension. All necessary functions for the ground floor will be organized
in one triangle shaped piece of furniture. The central dark zones will harbor storage space
and laundry room. The living room will be separated to create a more intimate and cosy
feel. The oblique line strengthens the perspective. Round domes provide zenithal light and
create a contrast with the sharp line. A playful contrast is created between warm coloured
wood, terrazzo flooring, clean white furniture and perforated steel.

Bijloke Caf
Bar interior - Gent
Termination Date: 01.2017 - Contribution: Design & coordination

The bar of the Bijloke music hall in Ghent received a radical interior makeover. The layout
is preserved but all joinery, furniture and lighting have been renewed. Neutral beech wood,
terrazzo and black accents enrich the existing setting. Brass lighting fixtures contribute to
the friendly ambience. The construction period on site was limited to 5 days. Therefore we
developed a custom-made prefab mounting system for all joinery.

Warandestraat
Residential renovation - Gent
Termination Date: 01.2017
Contribution: Design & coordination

Transforming a typical Belgian townhouse into 2

comfortable apartments with little budget and space.
All workable existing parts are preserved and finished
in whited. This way, the focus shift to the new joinery,
ceilings and colour accents. Different shades of wood
and vivid colours brighten op the rooms. The budget is
limited by the use of standard plywood, laminate and
paint.

Bodo Resto
Restaurant Interior - Gent
Termination Date: 05.2015 - Contribution: Design & cordination

Bodo is located in a 17th century building at the heart of Ghent, next to the
iconic Gravensteen castle. The design process was all about finding the
balance between 3 important pillars. Preserve the unique charachter of the
building, implementing a new Bodo layer and respecting the numerous
monumental and technical restrictions.
Bodo has an open floorplan but the former 17th century chambers are still
perceptible. The three restaurant zones and the kitchen are linked to each
other by removing the doors and enlarging the entries, each zone has his
specific features. We found inspiration in the work of Alvar Aalto, as his work
and vision are complementary with Bodos approach. Diagonal pinewood
beams shape the furniture and are used as space dividers. The granito table
tops are specially made for this project. Copper lighting, a range of old marble
clocks and well picked tableware complete the harmonious ambience.

Hotel Dupanloup
Research Center Interior - Orleans
(Freelance work for Studio Makkink & Bey)
Termination Date: 09.2014 - Contribution: Design & cordination

The history of the Universit dOrlans and its hometown becomes animated in a new interior by
Studio Makkink & Bey. LHtel Dupanloup was transformed by using former functions of the 17th-
century building and extracts of the citys rich past. New designs show these function shifts in photo
impressions on the tables and chairs show the renovation of the building. Curtains and carpets are
based on the iconography from archives of cultural institutions. The Orlans specials are combined
with earlier studio designs, antiques and a few white Ikea pieces that were treated by students of
the the design school of Orleans. Each furniture setting is always the equation of a period object + a
bespoke object + a students transformation of a white object + an existing object by the studio.

Bend Tables
Table set
Contribution: Design & prototyping

Usually you find the legs of a table on the corners of the

tabletop. The legs of the Bend tables are on the side. The
rounded corners and atypical legs create a different shape and
functionality. The Bend tables have a white powder coated
steel frame. The concrete tabletops are sligthly colored with
blue or green pigment. The set includes a diner and side table.
The Bend tables are, quite simply, mounted with screws on the
cross-shaped frame.

Coffee Companions
Coffee Table design
Contribution: Design, production & sales

Coffee Companions are remarkable coffee tables in birch plywood,

available in 2 sizes and 4 colors. The shape is a result of a research
on minimal waste of material and maximal user-comfort. The table
consists of 3 separate parts, that are laser cut out of birch plywood.
The legs fit perfectly around the table top, this way the material loss
is limited. An important ecological and economical advantage. Coffee
companion is a flat pack furniture, very simple to assemble and easy
to move around. The table top is stained so the structure of the wood
is still visible. This gives each table a unique appearance. Choice
between a red, yellow, green and natural birch version. A water-based
varnish ensures durability.
