LASTLY get a digital luggage/fish scale $20 Walmart and weigh everything except food, water,
fuel and your body that will be on the trail with you on the first day. If it is under 40 pounds
(18143.7grams) then you did good.

You will add:

WATER 4 POUNDS
FOOD 8 POUNDS

Shakedown your system after 20 miles, 40 miles, 100 miles and each Hiker Box
drop off unneeded things.
As you lose fat weight and build muscle and your cardio improves, your miles will
extend to 20, 30 or the rare 40 per day.
Youll be burning over 5,000 calories a day, but compensating in town on ZERO
DAYS and carrying more food.
Water carried will depend on availability along the trail, but should max out at 7
liters (15.43 pounds) between Cajon Pass and Wrightwood or Guffy Spring.
Water is heavy and sloshes around, so pack it close to your hips, low and
forward in the pack.
Water and some liquids can be frozen, then vacuum-sealed to create a smaller
package.
Rum, peanut butter and honey can be sealed in plastic using an impulse-sealer.

.
Buy simple gear for training.

Train lightweight, until you can thru-hike ultralight.

Meals should require a spoon and a pot. You dont need cup, bowl or fork.

Before you start the PCT you will buy new, light, expensive gear.

As you finish or approach a section, you will change out gear.

Study each gear item or category for weeks before you buy it.

Compare specifications.

Consider Build-over-buy and Do-it-Yourself.

Buy Modify Design - Create Build Save.

Improvise - Adapt Overcome.

Prepare Plan Practice

Weigh all the weighs next to nothing and make them lighter.

Learn each piece of gear by touch.

Dress for the locality, pack clothes for the destination.

Failing while training can mean surviving on the trail.

Every hand hold is a purchase of your life.

Take what people say with a grain of salt.

Reports are delayed and conditions change.

For better or worse, the trail will be what it is when you get there.

The wilderness is not where you want to needlessly be injured.

Leave wild animals alone.

If you see bear cubs, do not get between mother and cubs. EVER!
