1. What is the process the school uses to monitor communication with parents, the school,
and the faculty?
I discussed with my principal Erin Wolford and this was her answer;
We utilize social media- Facebook, along with phone messages through Blackboard Connect to
communicate with families. As you know, this summer we are doing 'Ville Visits as an outreach
to deliver invitations to our Picnic in the Park. I will also be mailing a "Welcome Letter" to
families the first week in August. With staff, I most often use email as the main form of
communication. However, I also mail "Welcome Back" letters since all staff members don't
check emails over the summer.
I think that Erin is initiating many new ways to reach parents. I am excited to reach more
families and allow them to feel welcomed at the school and in the community. It will be great to
do a Ville Visit where we will actually ride a bus around the community and knock on families
doors to deliver paperwork for a picnic we will have for the entire community. This is a great
way to get students excited to see their new teacher and gear them up for an exciting school
year. With being able to see the parents in the community and not in the school building I think
is very powerful. I am excited to be a part of this and to see how it works this school year and
develop it in the future.
It is always a challenge to meet the hard-to-reach parents because typically that child in
your classroom needs to most love and affection to help them succeed in the school. Once you
better understand the student you can help them break down the barriers to help them achieve in
school.

I took the time to talk with past individuals that coordinated summer school to see what
they did in previous years. After talking with these teachers in the building I then worked on
creating the documents to mail to the students to invite them to summer school. I then e-mailed
the teachers to create a list of students. These students should be students that would gain the
most from attending summer school to help alleviate summer loss. With this list of 100 students
from grade Pre-K to 4, the lead teacher, secretary, and myself got the addresses to mail the letters
along with the application to each family. We decided to mail them home in hopes that they
wouldnt get misplaced in backpacks.
Its hard to believe but we are in the beginning stages of setting the groundwork for planning
summer school this year. Summer school will occur this year on the following dates:
August 7 10
August 14 17
August 21-24
Specific times for teachers and students will be determined at a later date.
This year we are targeting any students in grades Pre-K (rising to K) through grade 4 (rising to grade
5) that are at risk for experiencing summer learning loss. Please submit a grade level list to me no later
Friday, March 10.
Also, if you are interested in possibly teaching summer school, please notify Donna by Monday,
March 6th.

During this time, I decided to draft another letter to send to families to remind them about
summer school. These letters were then distributed to the same families as well as some new
ones. I also looked at the data of the students that have already turned in the Summer School
information. Currently we are at 35 students enrolled. 25 Students at the primary level and only
10 at the intermediate level. We are hoping with sending out a second wave of letters to families
we can increase enrollment to at least 50.

After getting this email the lead teacher Jeanette Wagner and principal Dr. Donna
Newcomer. We discussed what our options were for this upcoming summer and we thought the
summer school program expectations would be. We Brainstormed ideas and shared ideas that
have already been created. They showed me the budget for summer school and what I needed to
do to complete everything correctly.
