Call for PARO Subcommittees

The IPSF Pan American Regional Office (IPSF PARO) is calling interested pharmacy students and
recent graduates from member organizations to join the Federation as part of PARO
subcommittee members. Subcommittees are vital in assisting in developing and implementing
projects for member organizations across the region throughout the year.

For all of the positions, you must be able to work throughout the year in your position and have
regular internet access. You must be reachable throughout your entire term until October 2018.
All the positions are invited to attend the 63rd and/or 64th IPSF World Congress, 11th and 12th
IPSF Pan American Regional Symposium, and your subcommittee face-to-face meeting, if one is
scheduled. However, attending these events is not obligatory.

If you are interested in a particular position listed here, you shall fill out the appropriate Google
Form by the deadline stated in the form. The link to the Form can be found on our Facebook
page, at http://facebook.com/IPSFparo or by contacting your organizations official IPSF Contact
Person.

IPSF PARO Subcommittees and Sub-coordinators

All the following positions are appointed by the IPSF PARO Regional Working Group prior to
October 1st. As most subcommittee work will be completed online, all subcommittee members
are required to have regular internet access for communications (Facebook, WhatsApp, Skype,
Google Drive) and for e-mails.

Translations and Communications Subcommittee


Positions available: Five (5)

This Subcommittee is chaired by the Regional Media and Publications Officer. The main
responsibility of this Subcommittee is to provide written (and verbal, if needed) translation for
the Regional Offices complete range of publications in order to reach a maximum number of
students across the region and to increase IPSF relevancy to non-native English speaking
individuals and organizations. Due to the multilingualism prevalent in our region, the work of the
Translations and Communications Subcommittee is essential. Subcommittee members could also
be requested to assist in editorial work for the Regional Office.

This Subcommittee is ideal for individuals who:


Have knowledge about IPSF and IPSF PARO or wish to acquire such knowledge
Are motivated to get involved within IPSF PARO, especially as a first involvement activity
Are organized, analytic, and punctual
Are fluent in French, Portuguese or Spanish and who have at least a beginner or
intermediate level of English. Native knowledge of French, Portuguese or Spanish, with
English as a second language is preferred, but not required

Example tasks of the Translations and Communications Subcommittee include:


Translating a public health campaign, to be published on Facebook, from English to
Spanish
Reviewing and providing suggestions to a previously translated text (from English to
Portuguese) that will be published on Facebook
Participate in an online meeting with individuals from across the Americas and
interpreting (translating verbally) from Spanish to English

Membership Promotion Subcommittee


Positions available: Four (4)

This Subcommittee is chaired by the Regional Relations Officer. The IPSF PARO Membership
Promotion Subcommittee mainly works to establish contact and secure communication with
potential member organizations across the region in order to promote IPSF and its activities. The
Subcommittee requires motivated individuals who will take the initiative of spreading the IPSF
spirit! Subcommittee members could also be requested to connect and maintain contact with
existing IPSF PARO member organizations.

This Subcommittee is ideal for individuals who:


Have fair knowledge about IPSF and IPSF PARO or wish to acquire such knowledge
Are motivated to get involved within IPSF PARO, especially as a first involvement activity
Are effective communicators, investigative, and punctual
Speak French, Portuguese and/or Spanish fluently (preferred, but not required)
Example tasks of the Membership Promotion Subcommittee include:
Researching the pharmacy schools across the region and their respective pharmacy student
organizations
Participating in meetings with potential members to inform them about the structure and
activities of IPSF
Communicating with pharmacy students and recent graduates from across the region
through social media or other means to promote IPSF

Media and Publications Subcommittee


Positions available: Three (3)

This Subcommittee is chaired by the Regional Media and Publications Officer. The main objective
of this Subcommittee is to assist in the development of all media and promotional material used
for public health campaigns, official announcements, event promotions, and more. Creativity is
an essential quality for these subcommittee members who are responsible for the publications of
the Regional Office. Subcommittee members will also assist in reviewing published material if
required.

This Subcommittee is ideal for individuals who:


Have fair knowledge about IPSF and IPSF PARO or wish to acquire such knowledge
Are motivated to get involved within IPSF PARO, especially as a first involvement activity
Have an eye for detail and who are creative and punctual
Have the motivation to learn graphics editing programs and various programs such as
Canva, Piktochart, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Prezi, Powerpoint, Microsoft
Word, etc. Previously acquired skills in using these programs are preferred, but not
required
Have the motivation to learn website management skills, such as Wordpress. Previously
acquired skills in managing websites are preferred, but not required.
Have the motivation to learn about social media marketing with different sites such as
Facebook and Twitter. Previously acquired skills in managing social media effectively are
preferred, but not required.

Example tasks of the Creative and Promotional Subcommittee include:


Assisting in creating multimedia for the Regional Office, such as newsletters, posters,
videos, etc.
Innovating new methods of promotions to educate and reach out to existing and potential
member organizations through a variety of means (Prezi presentations, booklets, videos,
etc.)
Reviewing and editing material that is to be published on social media or in the newsletter
for clarity

Regional Projects Subcommittee


Positions available: Four (4) total, one (1) per project

This Subcommittee is chaired by the Regional Projects Officer and encompasses various IPSF
portfolios, notably public health, professional development, and pharmacy education. The main
focus of this subcommittee is to create and develop projects and content related to the various
portfolios for the Regional Office as well as provide assistance regarding these portfolios to
member organizations.
This Subcommittee is ideal for individuals who:
Have fair knowledge about IPSF and IPSF PARO or wish to acquire such knowledge
Are motivated in getting involved within IPSF PARO, especially as a first involvement
activity
Are innovative, resourceful, and punctual
Have a particular interest for public health and humanitarian issues, professional
development, the promotion of the pharmaceutical profession, and/or pharmacy
education

Currently, there are four sub-coordinator positions in this subcommittee, which are:
Humanitarian (Vampire Cup and more)
Public Health (Diabetes Mellitus, Health Living, and more)
Professional Development
Pharmacy Education

Humanitarian Sub-coordinator

The Humanitarian Sub-coordinator is responsible for developing humanitarian projects and


campaigns throughout the year. The focus project for this Sub-coordinator is the Vampire Cup
Challenge, which is a yearlong IPSF project that encourages member organizations to donate
blood and raise awareness about blood donation. The live Challenge takes place in June. Other
campaigns regarding various humanitarian issues are encouraged to be developed throughout the
year as well.

Example tasks of the Humanitarian Sub-coordinator include:


Supporting regional member organizations in the organization of blood donation campaigns
and activities
Developing materials for humanitarian campaigns related to pharmacy such as
malnutrition, natural disasters, access to water, etc. to be published on Facebook

Public Health Sub-coordinator

The Public Health Sub-coordinator is tasked with developing public health campaigns throughout
the year. Within PARO, the focus projects are the Diabetes Mellitus Awareness campaign, which is
held in November, and the Healthy Living campaign, which takes place during the times
determined by the IPSF Public Health Committee and/or by this Sub-coordinator. Various public
health projects are also encouraged to be developed throughout the year.

Example tasks of the Public Health Sub-coordinator include:


Organizing a video or photo challenge to raise awareness about Diabetes Mellitus
Developing materials for public health campaigns, including the IPSF projects, such as
counterfeit drugs, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and medicines awareness, as well as based on
the UN World Health Organizations World Health Days

Professional Development Sub-coordinator

The Professional Development Sub-coordinator is responsible for contributing to the promotion


Professional Development activities, campaigns, and competitions (Clinical Skills, Compounding,
Patient Counseling, Training programs, Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign) to member
organizations through campaigns and activities. This Sub-coordinator will collaborate with the
Regional Projects Officer to liaise with member organizations and support the organization of
Professional Development campaigns and activities at a local level.

Example tasks of the Professional Development Sub-coordinator include:


Developing materials and generating ideas for member organizations to promote the
pharmaceutical profession through Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaigns
Collaborating with the Regional Projects Officer in providing support to member
organizations to implement their own Professional Development competitions, such as a
Patient Counselling Event

Pharmacy Education Sub-coordinator

The Pharmacy Education Sub-coordinator has the responsibility of developing pharmacy education
projects and campaigns related to scientific and educational articles, Poster Competitions, and
recent events in pharmacy education and research. This Sub-coordinator will collaborate with the
Regional Projects Officer to communicate with member organizations regarding pharmacy
education opportunities.

Example tasks of the Pharmacy Education Sub-coordinator include:


Developing pharmacy education projects based on breakthroughs or current events in
scientific or educational pharmacy literature or inspired by the current objectives of the
Pharmacy Education Taskforce of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIPEd)
Collaborating with the Regional Projects Officer to promote IPSFs Pharmacy Education
initiatives among regional member organizations, such as the Phuture and the Pharmacy
Education Newsletter (PEN)
