For the Comm 663 Mid Term, I reviewed Ni Wens social media activities.

I organized
this analyse in seven parts; corresponding to each social media and a global conclu-
sion.

I - WIKI PAGE

Ni Wens wiki page is really clear and complete.

Every links opens in a new window, which allows the viewer an easy and clear visit on
her page.
She organized her wiki table per day, which highlight how often and how regularly she
posts on social media, it creates a steady rate.
Moreover, Ni Wen posted all the time being spent on her work in a row, at the end of
each week. I highly suggest Ni Wen to log it in a new column, so it will be more evident
and easier for the viewer to identify how many time she spent on each social media/ac-
tivity, without having to scroll down to this time spent row, where the beginning days of
the week are not visible anymore. Also, as she is already detailing the time spent on this
row, I suggest that she dont necessarily have to wrote it after each links, it will be clea-
rer and it will save space.
Ni Wen could also ad spaces between each link posts, so it will be easier to differentiate
each link, it will also create a more esthetic wiki table.
I also suggest to regroup each social media category activities with colors. For example,
in the Twitter column, she can group post categories (Re-Tweet, Tweet, Like, Follo-
wing) with colors; blue for every re-tweet, red for tweets, yellow for likes, etc. It will
add sense to the table organization, and will create a more colorful and attractive wiki
page.
Finally, I suggest Ni Wen to make and post screenshots of her Linkedin activities, as it
will be automatically deleted by the Social media within a certain time. She can, for
example, post those in a new table in her wiki page, or create a link to those screenshot
posts.
II - BLOGGING
Through her blog articles, Ni Wen created a real identity and presence to herself. Her
articles have a stamp and a signature, especially thanks to the quality of her photos,
which gives much life to it. Most of her article are based on her everyday life and self
presentation, she recreated her own world with dynamism. She uses a familiar tone, in
her once per week articles, which creates a certain complicity between her readers and
herself. However, I noticed several points that she could improve to get even more
strong articles.
First, categories and tags. Even if it is clear that she has done a great improvement on
it, as her four first articles had around six categories and twelve tags, which is way to
much, her two lasts articles includes respectively three categories and five tags, each.
Ideally, an article includes two categories and four or five tags. But the use of categories
and tags seems to be still confusing. First, I will suggest to never put the same catego-
ries and tags in one article, there supposed to be different. For example, put Fiji Is-
land (as in her article Welcome to the Fiji Paradise!) both in categories and tags, will
not bring any value to the article. Categories must be about the global theme of the ar-
ticle, when tags must be about several highlighted points mentioned in the article. Ni
Wen should work on differentiate tags and categories, to be more specific and growth
her audience.
Moreover, Ni Wen made a great improvement in her use of external links and pictures
credits. I noticed that in her three first articles, both links and pictures credits were mis-
sing, since her fourth article, every Ni Wens articles contains at least three external
links, and every pictures are credited. Especially in Ni Wens case, credits pictures are
really important, as her work with photography is amazing. She posts a lot of pictures in
each articles, all by her. Crediting her pictures values a lot her work. I will however ad-
vice her to beware on the number of pictures posted in each articles, as sometimes it
can be too much and the quantity of pictures can made shade to the article itself. As her
pictures are really good, I highly advice her to create an online portfolio, where she will
be able to posts all her pictures, by themes, and include links to this portfolio in her blog
articles; it will bring space into her articles, but also internal links on her work and it will
highlight her great photographic work.
I also noticed that Ni Wens is doing a really great work with interaction with her au-
dience. She responds to every comments on her articles, personally, always in a nice
and thankful way. On this point, my only advice will be to be careful on staying constant
on interaction, as there is still few comments without answers (as in her article find your
freedom in Williamsburg, for example). But it is globally really good.
She is also really present on blog comments, asking questions, giving her opinion, with
a nice and thankful ton.

III - LINKEDIN
First of all, I highly advise Ni Wen to change both her Linkedin profile headshot picture
and background picture. LinkedIn being a professional social media, both pictures must
be professional, according to what she plans to do professionally. As she wants to work
as a professional photographer, I will more advice pictures representing her work, and
avoiding a selfie wink profile picture and half-naked women background picture. For
example, in her Fantasy Dreamcatcher blog article, she posted amazing pictures of her
work, which might look more professional, and a great picture of her in a studio, adjus-
ting her camera, I will advice her to use those great pictures, representing her at work
and her work, for Linkedin.
Secondly, I advise Ni Wen to translate everything written in Chinese, in english. Linkedin
being an international social media, and Ni Wen being in the United-States, it is very
important and necessary that everyone, especially potential professional contact, can
understand and read about her great skills.
Thirdly, to make the best use of Linkedin, I advise Ni Wen to make more connections.
Not only with Comm 663 classmates, as done until now, but with her friends, with every
professional contact that she mades through her experiences and studies. It will help
her to growth her visibility on the social media. In the same idea, I also recommend that
she join groups, there is a lot of professional photographers Linkedin groups for
example, it can be the opportunity for her to extend her network, to make contacts and
to share her work with professionals.
Concerning Ni Wens updates, I will suggest her to not only share articles as she did un-
til now, but to comment those, with, for example, her own opinion, with a summary sen-
tence on what is the Update about, what interested her in it.
Also, I advise Ni Wen to add more skills on her profile, so it will be more complete. She
can also add what courses she followed in her studies, to be more specific on her know-
ledges. It will also be necessary to detail much more the Experience part, by explaining
what work she did in each experience, what were her missions, what did she learned
and accomplished. It will help her profile to be more complete and strong.
Finally, I noticed that Ni wens summary is really good. It is a great presentation of her-
self, highlighting her skills and her professional interests, it is really complete.
As advised earlier, in the blog review, I really see here how a portfolio will make sense
for Ni Wen works, especially for Linkedin, as her viewers will have a direct link to it and
her work.

IV - TWITTER
Firstly, it is really important, to improve her Twitter profile, that Ni Wen adds and creates
a short bio/summary, presenting herself in a quick sentence to indicate more about her
presence on the social media. She also should add a link to a hub, her Instagram pro-
file for example, or a link to her portfolio if she creates one, it will creates traffic into her
social media presence. The more complete her profile will be, the more likely people will
connect with her.
Globally, I think that Ni Wen is making a good use of Twitter. She has a short user
name, she mainly tweets about what she does best and what shes fascinated about:
photography. When she tweets pictures, she uses good hashtags. However, I noticed
that her non-pictures tweets mostly dont contains any hashtags (thoughts, shared vi-
deos, shared links), I suggest to use hashtags in every singular tweet.
Moreover, I highly advice her to use the mention @, and RT , when she retweets a
post, not only retweet it without any words or sentences. It will help her to be more vi-
sible, to gain traffic, content, and contact. In the same idea, I advice her, when she is
retweeted, to thanks about it, for example: Thank you @ for the RT! It will help her
to creates a closer relationship with her followers (38) and followings (94), and her posts
to be more retweeted and liked.
Finally, I advise Ni Wen to make connections with people who tweets about same things
and same interests, using her favorites hashtags in the Top Tweets search fields, for
example. It can be the opportunity to creates connections with professional or personal
persons, sharing the same interests and passions. I think that if she applies all of those,
Ni Wen will make a really great use of Twitter.

V - INSTAGRAM
Without any surprise, Ni Wen is doing a really great job with Instagram. Her pictures are
amazing and Instagram must have been created for artistic person as her.
First of all, the quality of her pictures are that great, that I am not able to really see if she
is using filters or not, but I think that she doesnt need filters anyway.
Since the beginning of the semester, I noticed that Ni Wen posted pictures on Instagram
frequently and regularly, which made her profile coherent. She also have a link to her
Weibo account in her profile.
She also always uses coherent hashtags, and quick sentences, words or Emojis. All of
her posts are really complete, presenting her every day life in image.
My suggestions for Ni Wen to get a perfect Instagram account and a hopefully A in
Comm 663, will be, firstly to add a summary bio in her profile, telling more about herself,
as she is only using a quote sentence type for now. It will help to know more about her
and her use of the social media.
I secondly advise to always add the geocalisation information in her posts, to be more
precise. And finally to identified her friends when they appears in her pictures, or the
Instagram accounts of restaurants when she posts their food, for example, to gain more
traffic and interaction on her page.

VI - WEIBO
Even if Weibo isnt graded in Comm 663, I thought that it was interesting to quickly high-
light the impressive use of Ni Wen in this Social Media, the most popular one in China.
Ni Wen have 7630 followers and 4141 articles so far. She puts lot of effect on Weibo
and have celebrity identification on it, represented by the golden V on her avatar, a
proof of the quality of her profile. Moreover, she posts pictures, selfies, chinese critical
blogs, videos, always using hashtags.

VII - CONCLUSION
First of all, Ni Wen successfully recreated her self identity through her presence on dif-
ferent social media, she is inviting her audience to her personal world, through her pic-
tures, her New-York City experiences and her passions. By creating a strong identity in
her social media activities, she creates a cohesive and coherent presence. She is a
communicative person, and creates a really good interaction with her viewers.
The use of photography in social media is definitively her best skill, which made Insta-
gram her best platform to use.
Since the beginning of the semester until now, it is clear that Ni Wen made great im-
provements, mostly in the technical use of social media; using hashtags, internal and
external links, crediting her pictures, communicating with her audience The best
example to illustrate those improvements is her blogs articles so far, comparing her first
article with 12 categories, no links, no credit pictures, and her lasts articles with all of
this, used coherently.
I think that Ni Wens biggest weakness is her use of Linkedin, looking too personal and
not enough professional for now. I advise her to review her profile, to complete it more
cohesively, as explained earlier.
Ni Wen should also work on her self presentation summary on Twitter and Instagram, as
the first impression will define if a potential follower will continue his/her visit on her
page. The more precise about herself and her use of the social media she will be, the
more likely people will connect with her.
Finally, I highly suggest her to creates a portfolio, with all her great photography work. It
will first highlight her strong identity, and it will also be a great hub to add to her social
media accounts. If I have to grade her work done so far, I will gave Ni Wen a B, be-
cause she made great improvements so far, she have a really impressive identity
through her presence, but I know that she can still improve her work until the end of the
semester, and Im sure that she will.
