Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide grade students, using texts of appropriate complexity, integrated language
arts study in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language for college and career preparation and readiness.

Course Goals:
The goals of this course are as follows:
1) Read and comprehend literature and informational text building in complexity. (R.10)
2) Write routinely over varied time frames (in all subjects) for multiple purposes, tasks and audiences. (W.10)
3) Engage in a range of collaborative discussions on various topics and texts to share knowledge and experiences,
building upon one anothers ideas, and referring to the text for support. (SL.1)
4) Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English including grammar, usage, and mechanics while
learning ways to use language to convey meaning effectively. (L.1-L.3)
5) Determine/clarify meaning of grade-appropriate words encountered through listening, reading, and use (L.4-L.6)

Classroom routine
1) Students should enter the classroom quietly and be seated before the final bell has rung. The days agenda will
be posted on the board instructing students on which materials should be used for that days class (classwork,
homework to be checked, page numbers to turn to etc.). Students should record the days agenda in their own
agenda. EVERYDAY Should the agenda be lost, we ask that another be purchased through the main office.
2) Students should come to class prepared with all necessary materials. However, students may sharpen pencils or
ask to borrow materials if necessary, as long as a hand is raised and the teacher allows the student to do so. Students
should participate fully in class discussions, group work and independent assignments. Students are expected to be
on task and respectful during class time.
3) When youre tardy- Please sign the Tardy log. If you have a pass attach it to the tardy log. Do not interrupt to
teacher to explain why youre tardy.
4) Students should continue classwork until the warning bell and remain seated until dismissed by the teacher.

Restroom Policy:
Students will not be permitted to use the restroom during the first or last fifteen minutes of class. The student must give
the teacher a pass in order to leave the room and it must be an appropriate time, i.e. not while teacher is teaching,
testing, etc.

Classwork and homework assignments


1) Students will be given verbal and/or written notification of all classwork and homework assignments with due dates
and instructions. Students are responsible for paying attention in class and recording all assignment submission dates
and expectations in his/her agenda.
2) Any work not completed during the daily lesson will be considered homework in addition to the assigned
homework for that day.

Classroom Expectations:

All students are expected to:

Demonstrate respect
Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves at all times
Raise hands and wait for permission to speak
Stay in their seat unless given permission to be up
Come to class fully prepared with all needed materials
Follow directions when given
Take responsibility for their actions
Pick up after themselves before leaving the classroom
Get missed work from absent bin, talk to study buddy, and ask the teacher
Use computers responsibly
Put forth their best effort at all times

Consequences for Minor Infractions:


1st infraction- Student Conference /Warning/Note in agenda
2nd infraction- Phone call/e-mail home
3rd infraction- Team-Parent-Student Conference will be requested
4th infraction- Discipline Office will be notified

*Severe infractions will result in immediate referral to the Discipline Office.


*All student infractions will be added to the discipline tracking form and is a cumulative record of the infractions
each student incurs. Mrs. Vega supports the expectations stated in the student agenda and the Student Code of
Conduct.
