Song Analysis #1: Splinter and Stones

1. What does the song say about us?

It is an unavoidable fact that we, as natural beings are stained with imperfections,
weaknesses and blemishes that scars our personality and thus conceiving the idea that we
cannot be better than our present selves. We sometimes think that we are unredeemable or too
invaluable to be salvaged. We restrain any hope of being like God someday, and incriminating
ourselves on a prison of stagnant personality, where we think that we have no capacity to
become more than what we see on the mirror. We continuously partake of the evils of personal
contentment and believe that there is no hope of progression left for us. It can be perceived
through the song that we cannot stand on our own, and that we require the need of Divine
Providence to help us increase, develop and discover the possibilities which we can fulfill.

2. What does the song reveal about the character of Jesus?

Psalm 34:17 mentioned that; The righteous cried out, and the LORD hears them; he
delivers them from all their troubles. One of the characteristics that I found to be of great
emphasis is the willingness of Christ to go down to this carnal world, and succor us from our
infirmities and sorrows. His willingness to sacrifice himself just so we may not suffer as well is
the most genuine love a man can give. It is crystal clear in this song that Jesus carried us in our
lowest times, sacrificing a perfect life to give aid with our imperfections, and carried us on his
shoulders, supporting us from the burden we cannot bear alone. And even in times of
persecution, forgiveness won over wrath. If there be an eternal truth, it is that Jesus of
Nazareth loves you, no matter what.

3. What does the song say about our response to what Jesus did?

Splinter and Stones is a song of Praise to the Almighty Savior which atoned for our sins.
After all that have been done by him, we express our eternal gratitude that we are blessed with
a person, both human and divine. As we proclaim Hallelujah we continue to glorify him, not just
on the times of comfort but also on the times of depression and hopelessness.

4. How does this relate to Christian Morality?

Amongst all the standards we can use to determine what is favorable or not, nothing is more
credible than the standard of Christs life and ministry stated on the Bible. Jesus of Nazareth
was the perfect example for all mankind. With the remarks of the song on how he loved all of us,
it must inculcate in our minds that we too, has an obligation to love others. Our decisions and
actions must be guided upon the examples and teachings that Jesus expressed on his mortal
life. If we are to encounter a person who suffers depression or hopelessness, we must succor
his sorrow, as what Jesus would have also been doing, because that is the basis of our
Morality, to do what Christ would do.
