Describe yourself as a student teacher. What skills have you learned in your field study
classes or in your general experience in life or work that would support your
placement as a student teacher in your selected school(s)? In what ways have you
been change by your college classes that make you believe you are prepared for the
rigors of student teaching?
Here at Fort Lewis College I have gained an abundance of experience working with
different grade levels and abilities. I enjoy working with individual students one on one to
supply them with all the encouragement and support that they need to have academic
success. As a teacher, I believe it is important to identify students strengths and
weaknesses to help teach in various ways for students to retain the knowledge. Having a
personal connection with the students is one of the most important things when working
with students. I love the experience of being in a different classroom culture, it pushes me
out of my comfort zone and I always learn something new. I have learned to create lessons
regarding differentiation with all diverse students. I have also worked closely with the
English Language Specialists for many hours focusing on strategies to nurture each
individual student and their journey of learning English as a second language. Working
closely with English Language Learners has really given me great incite for strategies I can
use when teaching lessons, talking in the classroom, giving directions as well as classroom
set up. With my experience I am fully prepared to take student teaching head on.

PLEASE LIST EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IN STUDENT

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE OUTSIDE INTERESTS THAT MIGHT ENRICH YOUR STUDENT TEACHING/PARTNERSHIP:
One of my favorite things about being an athlete at the collegiate level is being a part of a team. I have learned
through coaching, that I can foster and reach out to students needs and interests in a way that can reciprocate
back into the classroom. I would like to create a classroom culture that allows students to understand together
we will get to our end goals, and they arent alone on the journey.
Montoya, Alyssa 900371068 FALL 2017 STUDENT TEACHING

One of the main things that I hope to bring into the

classroom is positive energy. I am a strong believer that
TEACHING you can turn around any students day by showing
support, and fostering their individual needs. I strive for
STRENGTHS one on one connection with students which allows me to
get a better understanding of that student academically as
well as individually. Based on my field practicum and
teaching experience in the classroom, I have grown
professionally in the subject of language arts. I have
worked closely with students who are at a variety of
levels in reading, writing, and comprehension. While
working with individual students, I can pin point the
stages that they are at for early writers and readers. I can
also come up with strategies and resources for them to be
challenged and reach their full potential. I have also
worked closely with English Language Learners. I
understand the importance of differentiation and adding
in the language content in every lesson to foster diverse
students.

Based on my Field Practicum and teaching experiences, I

TEACHING would like to see more professional growth in the subject
of science. I am hoping to really understand more about
GROWTH science, and different ways that I can always incorporate
the inquiry based learning into the classroom. Focusing
on including inquire based science learning into my
curriculum and making connections between subjects is a
huge goal of mine. In my experience at Fort Lewis
College my professor instructs great strategies to use in
the classroom which allows students exploration.
Students should be explorers of their own experiments. I
would like to intrigue individuals to want to learn
science and connecting it to their background
knowledge because when a student can relate, that is
when you grab their attention and they understand what
they are learning. I am continuing to grow and learn in
this specific subject to really incorporate inquire based
learning into the classroom.
