Learning Objectives for the Subject

Please add a few lines describing the learning objectives for this course (this could be in terms of
what the student is able to do at the end of the course)

This is an introductory course on Quantitative Techniques. The objectives of the course are:

Introducing the basic concepts involved in statistical reasoning

To provide confidence in drawing meaningful and valid conclusions from data

To provide exposure to the right tools to be able to perform basic and advanced data analysis

To provide exposure to a large data-base thereby learning the process of converting data to information
and information to knowledge.

Alignment of Course to Program Goals and Objectives

(please tick mark Program Goals and Objectives which are relevant to this course you could
add objectives if necessary )

Goal/Competency Specific Behavioural Attributes / Objectives

Learning Outcome

The following are the learning outcomes of this course :

To be able to properly present and describe data in tables and charts

To make inferences about the characteristics of large population based only on information obtained
through a sample

Understanding variation and how to apply this understanding in improving data analysis

To make predictions and obtain reliable forecasts

Assurance of Learning

Sr No Method planned for AOL Description

1 Theory Each theoretical framework is explained through a

discussion in class. A question is first raised. Various
methods are discussed. The theoretical framework is inter-
woven and is achieved as an outcome of these discussions.
2 Practice Every alternate session is a practice session. Students are
provided with data-bases. Basic training on using software
programs like Excel and SPSS is provided. Every alternate
session is an assignment. These assignments are discussed
and evaluated in class.

3 Evaluation of learning A combination of 6 assignments and 1 final exam

My Country - The NSSO carries out a survey on consumer expenditure once

Data Mining the every 3 years
NSS Database This data-base is provided to the students and they are asked to
