SCHOOL PROSPECTUS

The booklet below is designed to give you helpful information about our school.

East African School of Cosmetology is a happy school with a very positive ethos. We take pride
in the diversity of our community and believe that all students can be encouraged to do their best
in this positive, hardworking environment.

Please make an appointment to meet us if you would like to see the school. We welcome visits
from parents of prospective students, so you can be well informed before making a decision to
apply for a place for your student.

AIMS

The directors and all the staff at east African School of Cosmetology are fully committed to
providing the best possible educational opportunities for all the students and we encourage
mutual respect.
We aim to create a friendly, secure environment where the students are encouraged to learn
academic, expressive and social skills that will enable them to develop into happy, independent,
disciplined, self-motivated and self empowered individuals.

PASTORAL CARE AND DISCIPLINE.

Pastoral care is most frequently the responsibility of support staff in the school, who through their
greater understanding and experience of the world, aim to develop an ethos within the school,
which recognizes each student as a valuable individuals with needs that extend beyond classroom
studies.

Listening to a student is as important than talking to them. Making time to hear what a student or
other member of the school has to say is vital and being approachable is important.

CODE OF CONDUCT

We want students to accept responsibility for their own actions, accept the rules of the school and
the classroom and understand that a purposeful approach to life is an important part of being
successful e.g.

THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Management Team.

In addition to this, most members of the teaching staff hold responsibility for a specialized area of
the curriculum.

Governors

Our Governors are representatives of the local community, parents and school staff. They bring a
range of interests, knowledge and skills. They have responsibility for over seeing the
organization, curriculum and budget of the school.
The day to day running of the school is entrusted to the Principal and staff.
Friends of the School

All parents and staff of the school have automatic membership to the ‘Friends’ and are welcome
to meetings of the school.
We encourage parents who can put themselves forward if they have time or skill to offer.

SCHOOL ORGANIZATION

They are approximately 40 students per class each year. When we create a class group, we aim at
balance of behavior and ability. Teachers plan to meet the needs of the students in their classes
and are supported by teaching assistants.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

The school’s policy on admissions as agreed by governors is as follows:


• The minimum level of admission is Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or it’s
equivalent.
• A credit in chemistry
• Completed medical form provided by the school.
• A letter from the LC 1 Chairman
• A student should be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian
• A completed registration form

SCHOOL TIMES

The school opens at 8.00 am and classes start at 8.30 – 10.30.break for 30 minutes.11.00 to
1.00pm and 1hour for lunch. Classes start at 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm. Monday to
Friday.

EXTRA CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES

Academic achievements is of paramount importance at East Africa School of Cosmetology and


Esthetics, but we aim to develop rounded, balanced business oriented students equipped with all
the skills essential to living a full satisfying life. We develop clubs and teams of interest to staff
and students as well. Example is Creativity in different skills- Art and Design, Communication
skills, etc.

SCHOOL TRIPS AND JOURNEYS


At East African School of Cosmetology and Esthetics, we value greatly the importance of
educational trips to reinforce the curriculum and give hands on experience of the topics being
covered. In order to fund these trips we do ask parents to cater or make contributions to cover the
cost of the trip.

BOOKS & BAGS

When a student begins at The East African School of Cosmetology and Esthetics, HE/SHE is
provided with the student textbooks and equipment pouches. These are property of each student.
In case of any loss, the student is required to purchase a replacement from the school on his/her
own funds.

DAMAGE TO SCHOOL PROPERTY

If any student willfully damages an item of school property, then the school would ask that the
student’s parent/guardian to pay for a replacement item.

COMPLAINTS

If you have a concern or complaint, please discuss this with the teacher.
If you wish to discuss the matter further, please arrange to speak to the Head of Administration or
Deputy.
If you are still dissatisfied, the correct procedure is to approach the governing body in writing, via
the school.

PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE

It is very important that students attend school every day and arrive on time. Students who come
late will be punished.
If the student is sick or medical appointment please contact the school by telephone in time.
Absence from school without a note or message from parents/guardian is counted as unauthorized
absence.

Authorization for absence will not be given for outing, shopping, trips or family visits.
Holidays should be taken during school breaks. In exceptional circumstance permission may be
given.

HOME AND SCHOOL


We welcome regular contact with parents/guardians. We believe in real partnership with you, so
that your child is secure in knowledge that parents and teachers share similar expectations
towards work and behavior.

ENCOURAGEMENT

Parents should encourage their children and get interested in what they do.
Parents should check books at home and share the value of this mindful learning, Parents should
also undertake work sharing in additional tasks given to a student as homework.

HEALTH AND WELFARE

The school is not responsible for the illnesses of students. If the student suffers from any illness,
let the member of staff responsible for this be notified in time

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

Parents are requested to supply the school with an up-to-date home address and telephone number
and also details of where they can be contacted at work. You should also nominate someone else
as a contact if there are times when you are unavailable.
The school is responsible for students only during school time. No meals are provided at school,
so furnish your son/daughter with lunch.

LIABILITY

We are not insured to cover for loss or damage to personal belongings on the school premises.
Please note that the school is not liable for the loss of personal belongings that are brought to
school or careless injury.
In case of school transfers, please notify the school first.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

School provides uniforms for students, and students are required to report to school in school
uniform. Students are advised to wear comfortable low heal fitting shoes.
Please have most of your personal belongs labeled, like the equipment in your pouch and
schoolbooks.
