SPEECH DURING SWEARING IN CEREMONY AT KENYATTA STADIUM ON

THURSDAY, AUGUST 17TH, 2017 (Abridged)

When I was 15 years old, I wrote a poem called "River of Life, Thayu." In the
poem, I said that life is like a river-it flows from the mountains, the higher lands
and meanders its way to the oceans. As it drifts down, it learns that it is easier
to go around a hill than try to push it aside. However, it never loses focus or give
up on its journey to the sea.
Our lives are like that of a river and today is a testament that if you do not lose focus, if
you are committed to a just cause, the journey continues.
I am a happy person as I stand here today because God has decided that the journey
continues.

I would like to thank God, my family Lillian (campaigned hard).

Our children, my parents, sister, relatives, friends, colleagues, supporters by deed, by
forward support and by prayers. I would also like to thank MAENDELEO CHAP CHAP
members, candidates and winners.
I have to admit that this was not an easy contest. It was a competition between real
development liberation and the dark forces of sycophancy and politics of poverty that
have made Africa the poorest continent and the laughing stock of the rest of the world.
I stand here today so proud of my people of Machakos who have shown that they value
their lives and cannot be easily swayed.
Our challenges are many and I promise to tackle them.
I have outlined a number of projects I intend to accomplish during this term. They
include;
(a) Employment through construction of New City
(b) Water
(c) Roads
(d) Electricity
(e) Education
We will transform Machakos from the Third World to the First World.
Elections are behind us and like majority of us, I believe that Kenyans want stability and
peace. We must therefore endeavour to work together and reason together. We, the
people of Machakos, hatuna wakati wa kuandamana na kuharibu mali. Wananchi
wanataka ajira na Maendeleo.
Those who lost, life goes on. Ms. Wavinya Ndeti, a leader in her own right, even though,
she was just a pawn in a larger chaos game, she is still my sister njoo tufanye kazi
pamoja.

Integrity and Governance

We must save and utilize the resources we have-it is important. We have been able to
do more in Machakos because of squeezing every shilling and fighting corruption by
working with Clean people and working hard.
Finally, ladies and gentlemen, I congratulate my fellow Governors from all the 47
Counties who were elected. I especially congratulate my good neighbours Governors-
elect Prof. Kivutha Kibwana and Charity Ngilu.
Our Senators starting with Senator Bonface Kabaka, our MPs and MCAs
Congratulations. My MCAs wakati wa propaganda umeisha. Msianze kuitwa Nairobi
ndio mmalize Gavana Wenyu hapa.
Let us work together. Let us hold hands together.
Ahsanteni sana na Mungu Awabariki.
