Literature Circles Reflection and Assessment

Your literature circle grade will be based on our reflections of your participation in class discussion,
evidence of careful preparation for the discussion and your honest and accurate self-reflection.

Answer the TWO questions below:

1. What are two ideas that you introduced to the group in todays discussion?

2. What is one idea that another group member introduced which challenged/deepened or
clarified a topic of your groups discussion?

Answer ONE of the questions below, as directed by your teacher:

A. What is a theme you see emerging in the text? Cite evidence from the section of the text you
read for today as support.

B. Choose a specific portion of text in which the writing spoke strongly to you. What is the
impact of the authors choices on meaning and tone in the section? How does this contribute
to your understanding of the text? How does this impact the experience you have with the
text?

C. Cite a specific example of a time when a particular event or interaction between characters
developed or advanced the meaning of the work as a whole in this section of the text. Be
certain to support how and why this occurs.

D. Choose a specific character, event or setting from this section of the text and draw a
connection between this work and another work you have previously read.

E. How did the author build the story to its end? Avoid plot summary. Is this an appropriate
ending to the work? Is it a conclusion or is it simply an ending? Consider that an ending is an
abrupt closure to the story and a conclusion is a comprehensive tying-up of all conflicts in the
story. Is the resolution satisfying to you as the reader?

F. What is one question raised in or by the text? To what extent is this question answered in
this section of the text? Cite evidence from the text to support your answer.

Attach your homework to this paper as evidence of your preparation.
