ABSTRACT

Adolescence is a period of transition from childhood to adulthood, this period is often referred to
as puberty, many teens are still concerned with body image and feeling worried about the shape
of her body, while the body image perceptions person's body size as the belief that his size is
greater or obese of the actual body size.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between body mass index with body
image in girls in class XI SMAN 1 Sukoharjo District of Sukoharjo District Pringsewu 2015. The
subjects were female students in class XI SMA N I Sukoharjo amounted to 113 people. The
study design used cross sectional design. The sampling using Stratified random sampling
technique. Analysis using Chi Square.

The results of the bivariate analysis there is a relationship between body mass index with body
image results (p-value = 0.004). Suggestions for teenage girl is to get motivated to improve
coping mechanism when the body does not have ideal conditions.
