PROJECT PROFILE ON
TALCUM POWDER

INTRODUCTION: This project profile has been prepared aiming at


production of talcum of powder in a small scale unit. Talcum powder is one
of the beauty care products used in every sphere of life localities. The
purpose to keep the skin dry to suppress the baby (sweat) order, to feel fresh
due to fragrance, to improve the aesthetic look and so on.

MARKET POTENTIAL: The demand of Talcum Powder is increasing


day by day at the pace of awareness of beautification. Purchase power of
people, urbanization and advertisement in different medias. All groups of
people use the product in all localities starting from very rural areas to
cosmopolitan cities. At present talcum powder is available in various
brands. There is always a need of a quality product at a reasonable price.
Further talcum powder is having much demand for exports to the developing
countries. Thus it is felt that this product would be in growing demand.

BASIS AND PRESUMPTION:


1. Working hour : Single shift of 8 hours, for 300 working days in a
year.
2. Capacity utilization : 60% during 1st year
75% in 2nd year
90% in 3rd year and onwards.
3. Salary and wages : Monthly basis.
4. Margin money : 35% of total capital investment.
5. Interest charges : 14% has been calculated on total capital
investment considering the opportunity cost
of margin money.

6. Power tarrif : Rs. 4.50 per unit.

IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
The project is estimated to commence production within one year from the
conception of the project.
The delivery of the machinery is expected within 2 months from the
placement of orders. The time taken for preparation of the project report is 1
month.
The loan formalities will take about 6 months and one month will be taken
for installation and erection of machinery.
TECHNICAL ASPECTS:

Manufacturing Process: Talcum powder is prepared taking talc as the


basic raw material which needs to be very fine in structure. Deodorants are
added to enrich antiseptic properties to the powder. Perfume develops the
scent. A variety of fragrances are available for cosmetic products
manufacturing. Many are derived from Natural essential oils and many are
synthetic ones. Now a days synthetics are used to control the costs. The
scent essentially to be disseminated through out the entire stock of talcum
powder and therefore the perfume is to be mixed well with a small quantity
of talc, then this is further mixed with the larger volume in the SS blender
for a period of 1-2 hours. The stock is then filled in plastic containers and
duly sealed. The containers are necessary to be labeled/printed with
information as FDA norms.

Quality Control and Standards:

The quality of these products are maintained as per BIS specification


vide IS 3959-1991. Quality control parameters are the structure, gentle and
uniform fragrance, in a suitable pack.

PRODUCTION CAPACITY: 400 KG per day totaling 6,00,000


packs containing 200 gms talcum
powder valuing Rs.1,38,00,000/-.

MOTIVE POWER REQUIREMENT: 10.00 HP

POLLUTION CONTROL: Talcum powder manufacturing unit


does not produce any toxic efferent.
However, the mixing should be
carried out in closed chamber to avoid
air pollution.
