COMMkKDER Ti.SK GROUP FIFTY-EIGHT POINT FOUR OPERATION ORDBR 2-45

.JR OPERATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS
Th-ese operations will be conducted in accordance with USF-748
and TFI-IA, and with the following Group Instructions* Group
instructions which relate to TFI->IA will have the specific
paragraph number of TFI-1A in the left hand column. Until >
personnel become thoroughly familiar with TFI-1A it is recom
mended that the referenced paragraph be read. To refer to a
paragraph in this Annex, use the paragraph number preceded by
CCD6 instead of TFI-1A which should be used when referring to
\u25a0paragraphs in that document.
5100 Definitions and. Abbreviations

The Group willuse exactly the same terms and meanings as

TFI-lA* Avoid possible confusion between TCAP and DCA^'aad
other similar sounding abbreviations by spelling out, where
necessary* For example, "Tare Charlie Able Peter", etc.

3113 RCAP
Normally 4VF willbe used for RCAP. Their primary respons
ibilityis protection of the submarine and downed personnel,
but they must be alert to assist by acting as communication
relay and as lookouts for enemy aircraft crossing their area*
3115 RLP&d?
Recovery of RAPCAP with DCAP is necessary in order to reduce
time upwind. Carriers must therefore be prepared to launch
relief HAPC^P by catapult 15 minutes prior to schedule time
provided a satisfactory wind can be obtained.

RAPCAP pilots must be briefed on importance of expeditious

relief and return tc base.

3372 Composition of CAP on Strike Days

On Strike days, the defense requirements must be met first,
and sweeps or. strikes will be reduced as necessary to do this.
In order to meet the "Condition" requirements, the carriers
scheduled to launch the relief CAP will each keop 4F in condi
tion 10, and the remainder of planes scheduled to relieve the
CAP, and the i^PC^P and RCAP will be kept in condition 11.
These conditions will of necessity be modified during launches
and recoverries. It is permissable to use pianos scheduled •
for strikes or sweeps for these conditions, and in such case
pilots should be instructed that they are to jettison rockets
and/or bombs clear of formation, if ordered out on G*JP.
3373 Stationing and Relieving CAP

TFI-1A 3373 and CCD6 3115 appear to conflict. See TFIjJLA

IV PROPAGANDA LEAFLETS
A. The selection of propaganda leaflets, which are to be dropped over
enemy territory on each bombing strike in accordance with Para. 19
of Annex C, ComFirstCarTaskForPac 1 s Op. Order 1*4.5, will be left to the
discretion of individual, ship ls commanding officers as inventories
vdll vary from ship to ship. In this connection, it should be noted
that the leaflet serial-numbered 2021 has been ordered destroyed* In
general an effort should be made to select leaflets appropriate for
Empire consumption inasmuch as many of the leaflets are directed particu
larly at enemy advanced-base personnel and would have little meaning
for Empire inhabitants.

B. Action reports will cct forth the date, time, area over which dropped,
and quantity of each serial-numbered type leaflet dropped.

V FL/IK INFORMATION

A, Attention is called to the fact that submission of supplementary

ACA-1 forms is particularly necessary for this operation. In this con

1# Appendix 11, Annex Item, ConPhibePac A25-4A contains fulldetails on D-Day Support Missions* Pilots must be thoroughly familiar with Support
procedures. Missions assigned are to be carried out precisely on time with minimum communications and maximum effect.
2. This schedule does not provide all the aircraft requested by ComPhibsPac. The original plan called for two TGs to provide support, and
this schedule is maximum available from one TG.
3. Armament. Given favorable launching conditions, greater loads can be carried than specified by ComPhibsPac. This should be done, loading
more of the type bomb specified by ComPhibsPac. In view of the probability that NAPAIM will not be available in the quantity required,
Institute GP .Boobs, instantaneous fuze, where necessary.
4* VFN Pilots should be briefed for night CAP under CSA control, as they may be ordered to Target Area.
5. Aircraft of TG 52.2 will also be present. Cooperate particularly in communications.

6. Air/Sea Rescue at objective handled through Commander Air Support Control Units.
7. Support Groups from Fast Carriers are numbered to distinguish from Support Groups based on CVE*s which are lettered.
