ABSTRACT
Cipunagara watershed is the largest watershed in Subang Regency with its main river is Cipunagara
River. Cipunagara River has an important role for its surrounding activities. Past studies has shown that
increased activities around Cipunagara watershed, especially in segment 4, has caused the declining
water quality of the Cipunagara River. The importance of Cipunagara River multiplies as the development
plan of Sadawarna Reservoir and Cilame Reservoir for use as raw water source and irrigation. The aims
of this research are to analyse the capacity of Cipunagara River, related to potential pollution load from
its watershed for the next 5 years. There are two main steps undertaken in this study, which are the
calculation of pollution index and the calculation of pollutant load. The calculation of pollution index was
done using the method as stated in Minister of Environment Decree Number 115 of 2003 on Guidelines on
Determining Water Quality Status. The pollutant load was done by calculating both existing and potential
pollutant load in the next 5 years from domestic, agriculture, animal husbandry and industrial activities.
Results showed that pollution index in Cipunagara River was severe pollutans. As for the existing and
potential pollutant loads in segment 4 are 11.004,47 kg/day (12.267,73 kg/day) of BOD, 13,431.88 kg/day
(15.559,73 kg/day) of COD, 6.946,41 kg/day (7.514,75 kg/day) of TSS, 588,29 kg/day (770,76 kg/day) of
N-Tot, and 152,20 kg/day (230,78 kg/day) of P-Tot. Further, these results can be used to assist local
governments in managing water quality of Cipunagara River.
