Seniors Nenagh Eire Og 2.10 Cahir 1.9

The senior team made history on Saturday when they made their Senior championship debut at
MacDonagh park . It has been a remarkable journey for the club as they only entered in Adult
competition in 2010 at Junior B level winning a county double in Junior B in 2012 , Junior A double in
2015 before capturing the Intermediate county title in 2016 . Saturdays opponents remarkably made
followed a similar trajectory albeit a year ahead of us. There had been a lot of pioneers in the club
that had the vision to start Camogie in the club and a lot of teams suffered unmerciful hammerings
along the way and this current team are very appreciative of their determination of putting strong
foundations in place for the club to field a strong Senior team this year. Our opponents Cahir had a
year of senior camogie under their belts and travelled to MacDonagh park in hope but Nenagh who
have been training since January under Bertie Sherlock for this day and were physically well
prepared. Cahir scored the first point of the game with a free , Nenaghs Maeve Coffey had the
distinction of scoring the clubs first ever Senior championship point . Cahir retook the lead with
another free before Nenagh hit a purple spell scoring 2.1 with goals from Caroline Browne and Grace
O Brien and a point from Grace O Brien , Cahir then hit 3 points but Nenaghs Senior County star
Grace O Brien finished the scoring with 3 further points making the half time scoreline Nenagh Eire
Og 2.5 Cahir 0.6 in what was a becoming a tough physical battle with Rachel Maher and Alanna
Morris and wonderfully talented Ruth Hassett needing all their physical powers to match a team
with so many County Ladies football players . Nenagh started the second half in fine form scoring 4
points 3 from Grace O Brien and 1 from the only survivor of the 2010 team Cara McGrath . Cahir
then had a purple patch scoring 1.3 as Nenagh protected their lead . It was Grace O Brien who
finished the scoring with a point making the final scoreline 2.10 to 1.9 which was greeted by a huge
watching crowd .
