ROCHESTER & BEAUTIFUL UPSTATE NEW YORK
OVERVIEW The site of this years Vibration Institutes Annual Training Conference
is unique and looks to be our best yet. Situated in upstate New York just
off the southern shore of Lake Ontario, Rochester is both historic and
modern at the same time. One of the original boomtowns of the US, this
thriving city has been host to some of the most important inventions
and innovations. The birthplace of notable companies such as Kodak,
Bausch & Lomb, Gleason and Xerox, Rochester is also known for its
world-class research institutions like University of Rochester and
Rochester Institute of Technology.

NEW: OPTIONAL TOUR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14 | MORNING

Take a moment to explore this beautiful city! This year, Vibration institute has
arranged, for the low cost of $75 per person, an optional tour for spouses
and attendees alike. Take in the best of what Rochester has to offer with a
guided tour of the Susan B. Anthony house and the George Eastman House.
Tour price includes a boxed lunch, transportation, and entrance into the
museums for one low cost. (Register early, limit 40 participants!).
From family-friendly activities to professional sports teams, museums
and galleries, Rochester, NY, has something for everyone. Dont miss the

Eastman House, High Falls Museum or Strong National Museum of Play
(childrens museum).
Rochesters culinary scene includes wide-ranging, diverse ethnic flavors
and many traditions in American fare. Fine dining establishments serve
multi-course meals in historic settings or creative new cuisine in hip, bright,
even wild, cosmopolitan rooms. White hots, Rochesters take on the hot dog,
are found wherever their familiar counterpart-red hot dogs-are served.
If outdoor adventures are more your style, head east just a short drive to the
JUNE nearby Finger Lakes region with its wine trails and gorges, truly a hikers and

OVERVIEW
EDUCATION, SECOND-TO-NONE
The Annual Training Conference 2017 is the place for the vibration and
condition monitoring community to meet every year. Providing training
and education on practical vibration technology, the conference is also
an excellent networking opportunity for attendees and exhibitors.
Our sessions range from basic up to advanced techniques to achieve an
outstanding predictive maintenance program. Identification, analysis,
and correction techniques used in vibration analysis and condition
monitoring, including alternative technologies.
To better serve our conference attendees and to pack this years Annual
Training Conference with as much educational and training sessions, the
2017 Training Conference agenda will feature concurrent session tracks
and an expanded program that will emphasize related technologies.
This gives attendees the opportunity to customize their conference
experience based on their educational needs. In addition, the Institute
will again host an Academic Track at the 2017 Conference. Students
and faculty from around the world have submitted papers for review,
spanning topics from structural dynamics, controls, and educational
endeavors. Paper titles and authors will be listed on the Vibration
Institute website as soon as the review process is completed. Join us in
welcoming and encouraging our future colleagues!
The Conference will begin with a general interest opening session to
orient attendees to the latest ideas in technology and practices in the
vibration analysis and condition monitoring field. Major Sessions on rotor
dynamics, impact testing, operational deflection shapes, modal testing,
gearboxes, shop balancing, and signal processing will be featured.
Sessions on case histories will be provided for analysts to expand their JUNE
experience.
In a featured lecture, Professor Dennis Cromier of the Rochester
13-16,
Institute of Technology will discuss the AMPrint Centers 3D printing
program to develop new manufacturing systems based on 3D

CONFERENCE KEYNOTE ADDRESS - Wednesday, June 14
9:00 A.M.
Year of the Rooster-Time for an Economic Wake-up Call
Chris Kuehl (PhD), Managing Director Armada Corporate Intelligence
There are already tell-tale signs of a troubled
manufacturing economy, and even the
economy as a whole. Higher interest rates,
inflation threats and a stronger dollar, all
lead to uncertainty. What happens if the
changes in infrastructure spending, regulatory
engagement and taxes take place as
suggested? How long does the good mood hold
for the consumer? There will be lots to watch
in the coming year, and Chris Kuehl, managing director of Armada
Corporate Intelligence, lays out his economic forecast for us in this years
keynote address.
Chris Kuehl is one of the leading economic forecasters for various
industries, especially the manufacturing industry. In this presentation,
he relies on his expertise in the fabricating and manufacturing industries
to discuss and forecast this important sector.
Since 1999, Chris has been the managing Director of Armada Corporate
Intelligence and is one of the co-founders. In addition, he is the Chief
Economist for the National Association for Credit Management and
is on the Board of Advisors for their global division Finance, Credit
and International Business. Chris is also the Economic Analyst for the
Fabricators and Manufacturers Association and writes their bi-weekly
publication, Fabrinomics, which details the impact of economic trends
on the manufacturer.
Chris has a doctorate in Political Economics and advanced degrees in
Soviet Studies and Asian Studies and was a professor of international
economics and finance for more than 15 years prior to starting Armada.

of Operational Deflection Shape (ODS) Data
Robert Sayer, P.E., Applied Structural Dynamics
In his session, Robert Sayer describes how the following factors
affect the outcome of any operating deflection shape animation:
insufficient data points, incorrect use of interpolation or constraint
equations, curve-fitting of data, bookkeeping and/or data storage
errors and improper analyzer set-up.
