Democrats to Caucus and Nominate Candidate for Town Board Special Election.
Dan Ashley, Chairman of the North Greenbush Democratic Committee has called his party caucus for Thursday
August 12th at 7PM at the Elk’s Lodge on RT 4 in Troy. The caucus will result in a vote by registered Democrats
in North Greenbush to endorse a party candidate to fill the unexpired term of a town board member for one
year.

The Democratic Committee has endorsed Delores Celeste of Buckbee Road in North Greenbush to run for the
seat vacated via a court order resulting from the election of Republican Lou Desso to a conflicting elective
office in the County Legislature. As a result of that court decision, Desso was removed from the Town Board
only to have his Republican allies on the Legislature approve a self serving law that circumvented the intent of
the State Law which prohibited holding multiple elective offices. Once passed, Desso’s allies on the Town
Board appointed him back to the board and now voters will finally have their opportunity to weigh in on the
issue.

“Town Democrats believe voters are entitled to elect representatives whose only constituency is that of North
Greenbush and not embroil our town government in the politics of Rensselaer County and its highly partisan
legislature”. The Democratic Committee was fortunate to find and endorse Delores Celeste, a teacher and
administrator who has pledged not to serve in a conflicting elective office and put taxpayers first by providing
honest answers to deal with the town’s potential $400,000 cumulative deficit. “Mrs. Celeste understands that
the deficit represents a fiscal crisis for taxpayers that has not been effectively or honestly dealt with as
evidenced by the recent downgrading of the town’s bond rating by Moody’s Investment Service.” We are
confident she has the skills and determination to put the town on a path to fiscal accountability while
restoring civility on the town board, stated Ashley.

Ashley urged County Legislator/Town Councilman Lou Desso not to attempt to hijack the Democratic Party
endorsement by sending his allies into the caucus as his colleague Ms. Hoffman attempted last year. “Voters
deserve a choice between candidates and their visions for North Greenbush and not another meaningless
election in which the same candidates appears on every ballot line. “This is how Lou Desso was elected to the
Town Board in 2007 when a renegade faction of registered Democrats briefly took control of the Democratic
Committee and turned it’s endorsements over to the Republican candidates”, stated Ashley. Lou Desso won
that election by being the Republican, Democratic, Conservative and Independence Party candidate which is
the same as standing for nothing and winning at any cost.

The caucus will convene at 7PM and only registered Democrats will be permitted in the room and issued
ballots upon verification of their registration. Only Democrats may speak at the caucus and we urge everyone
to be present and seated by 7:15. Doors will open early to facilitate registration. We also welcome the children
of Democrats whose parents wish to attend and vote.
