A. Course Information

B. Course Description
Cooperative Education is a capstone course designed to assist students in the development of effective skills
and attitudes through practical, advanced instruction in school and on the job through cooperative
education. Students are released from school for their paid cooperative education work experience and
participate in 200 minutes per week of related classroom instruction. Classroom instruction focuses on
providing students with job survival skills and career exploration skills related to the job and improving
students abilities to interact positively with others. A qualified career and cooperative education
coordinator is responsible for supervision. Written training agreements and individual student training plans
are developed and agreed upon by the employer, student and coordinator. The coordinator, student, and
employer assume compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

D. Course Benchmarks/Objectives/Goals/Topics
The objective of this course is to provide students with necessary knowledge for the workplace. Units of
study in the classroom include the following:
Human Relations and You, Self Confidence and Self Esteem, Self Motivation and Goal Setting, Emotional
Intelligence, Values and Ethics, Problem Solving and Creativity, Personal Communication Effectiveness,
Communication in the Workplace, Getting Along with Your Managers, Coworkers, and Customers, Managing
Conflict, Becoming an Effective Leader, and Getting Ahead in Your Career.

7. Students will be on a 3 Strike System and could be submitted to the following: dismissal from the Co-Op
Program, dismissal from the job site, enrolled back into a regular school day, and/or loss of up to 2
credits.

Absent students are responsible to see teacher for make-up work once back (1 day per day missed)
OSS students are responsible for contacting teacher during suspension period for make-up work
OSS make up work will receive a 10% deduction on assignments
ISD students are responsible for completing make-up work during suspension
ISD make up work will receive up to 100% of grade earned
NO late work is accepted
NO extra credit is offered
Unexcused absences receive a 10% deduction on assignments
Make-up quizzes and tests should be pre-arranged with teacher
