COURSE 1st Quarter: Chemistry- atomic structure, periodic table, physical and chemical properties, and law of
DESCRIPTION conservation of mass/matter
2nd Quarter: Earths History- earth structure/composition, relative/absolute dating, fossils and evidence of the
past, evolution and genetic variation
3rd Quarter: Biology- microbes and diseases, biotechnology, relationships with ecosystems, and energy
resources
4th Quarter: Earths Waters- water distribution, water quality and human health, and oceans and other
aquatic ecosystems

CLASSROOM (www.bauersciencerocks.weebly.com). Students will be invited to join my google classroom,
which is where I will assign class/homework.
ARTICLE OF Students will be assigned an article of the week (further referred to as AOW) at the beginning
THE WEEK of each new standard. Students will be required to break down the standard and answer
(AOW) questions relating to it prior to beginning the lesson.
QUIZLET Students will use quizlet to review vocabulary for each unit.
BEHAVIORAL All Crestdale teachers expect students to adhere to the school Attendance Policy and Student Code of
EXPECTATIONS Conduct, which includes the dress code, and expectations of academic integrity such as cheating and
plagiarism. These policies can be found in the agenda book distributed to each student.

GRADING Student grades in this course will be weighted by category as follows:
POLICY 65% Formal Assessments (Tests, Vocabulary Quizzes, Final Review Assignment)
35% Informal Assessments (Lab Reports, AOW, Group Projects, Daily Assignments, Notebook Checks,
Bell Work)
GRADING SCALE 9-wk grades will be assigned as follows:
LETTER GRADE NUMERICAL GRADE
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 0-59
HOMEWORK Homework will be assigned when necessary to enhance student learning. Homework in this course will consist
mostly of completing unfinished class work, reviewing vocabulary, and working on the article of the week.
MAKE-UP If absent, it is the students responsibility to speak with the teacher upon return about missed work.
WORK 1. Check lesson plan on Google Classroom (if anything is assigned)
PROCEDURES
2. When you return (if you havent already gotten the assignment) check the Weekly Planner Board.
Any printed handouts/worksheets can be found in the make-up work folders at the front of the
room. Write absent in the previous days bell work OR ask a classmate for the bell work for the
day(s) you were absent if desired.
LATE WORK Late work for students who were not absent from class will be accepted for up to 5 days after the
POLICY due date with a 10% reduction a day. After 5 days, students will receive a 50% on any completed
work they turn in.
ASSIGNMENT Students are given an opportunity to re-take formal assessments if their score is below 79%. Students may
RE-DO POLICY & ask for a re-take after additional studying; they will receive the higher of the two scores, but the final grade
PROCEDURES cannot exceed 79%.
EXTRA HELP Tutoring is offered every Tuesday morning from 8:15-8:45am (room 826). Students must get a pass from the
OPPORTUNITIES teacher the day before to attend.
