ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE OF SEEING CHINA

Little Research Emanating from Little Cottage in a Little Island of Bangka

Belitung, Regarding The Big China

By Vour Essence

What do Indonesian youth think about undoubtedly big country of China

When I first hearing about this essay that I supposed to make in a very short period of time,
my first instinct was to ask as many colleagues as possible about their opinion on China.
From day one, I was busy contacting a variety groups of friends. From the long lost contact
friends I was having in elementary school, until my very best friend that hangs out with me
everyday.

I was making small talk to them before leading up to the big statement and question : So I
supposed to make this essay about the country of China. Can you tell me what do you think of
this country?

The responds I got was varied. From the common popular answers like this :

Its a big country. They are number one when it comes to the most populate country in the
world, right?

I love China! I dont know why but I always have this knacks of crush for chinese people,
they are so good looking!

Remembering China makes me remember my childhood, my favourite movies was always

those kungfu movies. Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, princess Huan Zu, even Bo-Bo-Ho (main
character of one Chinas old comedic movie), I miss them!

Until the not so popular opinions that I got from a friend that is studying outside of my
country which I am sure he has done his own research thoroughly :

China is one of the best country when it comes to pulling themself together, considering the
fact that this country has the most population in the world. Their methods of learnings are
excellent, making them capable of producing best proffesionals in the entire world. I have a
roommate that is a chinese person and he is awesome. His analytical skill is really great and
1
like the strereotype that all chinese is good in math he really is very good in math. He is a
hard-working student and genuinely a nice person.

This has me thinking further about doing some research in relevance on its people and culture,
how they behave and what is affecting them the most.

Little Clumps of Facts and Opinions about China and Chinese People

Europe announces their own discovery that the country of China is the third civilizational
center of humanity after the Egyptian and Greco Roman civilizations. It is impressive how
China could make it this far with such diversities in their people, social-economic approach,
and religion while managed to have openness to various other cultures.

Karthik Ventakesh, a space engineer from India has shared his opinions about China in quora,
in which I absolutely agree. He said, China unified in 1949 after a bloody war with Japan
and an ensuing civil war between CCP and KMT. From being an absolutely closed country to
its current stage, China has put an unimaginable efforts. One needs to give credits where its
due. When people dismiss China as an evil communist repressive country, they have never
spoken to a Chinese person (with an open mind)

Once portrayed as a cruel communist country, China government nowadays seemed to have a
tremendeous amount of advancement in relation of flexibility. Even though some restrictions
still applied to this day, they managed to be much more open to various cultures possibilities
that could visibly be inspected through their whole approach of lifestyle.

One of my friend who is now studying in China has said in his blog that one of the thing he
absolutely amazed about China is that how people react to their government. It is very
common for people from all over the world to be bashing over their government, expelling
their own bitter opinions about how their government is not capable on doing whatever they
are doing to lead a country. This is not the case in China. The people there are generally
having very positive opinions about their government, despite the communist system that is
going on.

According to Katie Pedro, a Human Resources Director in the company of Kabam Asia, the
government of China is having a great deal of effectivism when it comes to making decisions
for their countrys growth. When they decided that a problem needs to be fixed and some
2
policies needs to be arranging, the government could make it happen effective and efficiently.
She clearly stated in her writings that CCP (Comunist Party of China) led government
ammased a lot of decent scholars and scientists to make good policies, especially at
economics and finance. This has helped a lot of Chinas populations to improve their quality
of living.

It is not a secret that Chinas GDP (Gross Domestic Product) has been growing rapidly in the
last couple of years and indicating its huge portion of development, not only to their own
country but to all nations in the world. Chinas economy is now one of the largest in the world
by power parity according to the IMF, and is considered the second largest by nominal GDP.
This country is a global hub for manufacturing, as well as the larger exporter of goods in the
world. From the latest and most expensive sport cars in the world to the tiny little barbie toy
that cost $1, China seems to always have its own version of the product, with cheaper price
and an okay (mostly not so good) quality.

Not only they have a high rate of productivity when it comes to daily needs, they also have a
great amount of nationality when it comes to using daily products. The people of China has
been renowned to not using any other countrys product other than themself.

China is also in the news everyday. This country is increasingly seen as one of the major
economic powers in the world. Over the past two decades, Chinese output grown on average
at more than 10% a year, and the forecast are for more of the same. This is truly an
astonishing number, compared to the numbers achieved by Europe or US economy over the
same period, let alone another Asian country that is now still developing.

If we are to talk about how China has spreads about its influences to corners of the world, of
course we cant forget about their famous wise men concept about the five elements of the
world (water, fire, metal, wood, and earth) that is very well known by all the nations on the
planet, as well as the idea of two driving forces of nature : Yin and Yang. (hot and cold, love
and hate, earth and sky, etc.)

These concepts has been addopted in various mass media and research ranged from the
famous anime of Aang the children of avatar, all the way to famous American physicist :
Stephen Hawkings research about the nature of the universe.

3
Lets not forget the philosophers originated from China whos been so well-known by the
majority of higher education student from all across the world : Confucious, Laozi and Tsun
Zu. My favourite quote of all time happens to be originated from Confucious itself, with the
words Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising everytime we fall.

A brilliant student in 21st century English Speaking Contest of China in the year of 2013
named Anguo Ling has also mention Confucious words in his speech. He emphazised one of
golden piece from Confucious, A gentleman is versed in what is moral, a small man is versed
in what is profitable. in relation to his speech about how Chinas economic constructions
shouldnt make populations looses its moral.

Conclusion

When it comes to China, there are always be so many point of views to talk about. This
country is vast, rapidly growing, with interesting mixed of cultures and peoples inside. There
are so many strereotype that mass media has spreads about this country in which not all of
them true. When it comes to openness, surprisingly, people in China are becoming more and
more open to the variety of todays world society.

For the youth people in Indonesia, understanding the country of China is something that was
once hard due to the limited knowledge sources. However, in todays society when internet
connection is something that almost every house has, it becomes easier and easier for the
people to know more about this country, or even communicate with the people.

By evidence, the productivity of this country is uncanny, therefore I believe that Indonesian
youth should follow the example of Chinas people when it comes to hard work and goal
striving. It will be an honor for Indonesia to do some collaborations and cooperations with the
country of China, be it economical, political, and cultural.

Nevertheless, every single country has its own unique positive and negative traits. I personally
believe that we should respect one anothers traits and try to work with the best traits posible
while working together to minimalize the negative aspects.
