Teachers philosophy
Art courses teach students more than how to create artwork. These types of courses also teach
students how to take initiative to combine seemingly unrelated ideas to create new solutions. These
qualities are necessary in all careers and are what drives economies.

Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to develop the students ability to draw by introducing advanced drawing
concepts and experimental methods. The course is designed to enable the students to create a unique
style of drawing that can be used for individual expressions. Students who successfully complete this
course will have a portfolio of work that could help with advanced-level courses.

Topics:
Using the elements and principles of art, this course intends to develop the following concepts and
media:
Landscape Collage
Portraits Soft pastel
Abstract and non-objective Ink
Oil pastels Colored pencil
Figural (people)
Sculpture

This course requires art materials as well as access to Edmodo.com (see below for group code) and
Blogspot.com.

Materials list:
Set of drawing pencils ranging from 8H 8B darkness
Sketchbook (delayed)
Drawing erasers
Permanent black marker (may purchase off-campus)

Learning Outcomes for Students:


Students will be expected to
Create a minimum of five formal artworks that demonstrate the above listed topics;
Maintain a weekly journal of sketches that demonstrate taught concepts;
Create a digital portfolio of work;
Recognize popular artists who have influenced the history of drawing

Expectations of students
All students will be expected to
Work to the best of their ability at all times, regardless of skill levels
Care for the school supplies and resources;
Incorporate personal interests in their work;
Learn to appreciate different people and ideas;
Communicate using academic language.

What to bring to each class


Students are expected to bring the following items to every lesson (unless told otherwise):
1. Pencils
2. Sketchbook, including weekly sketchbook assignments
3. Necessary preliminary work
