FILM EVALUATION
FILM: OKJA

First Response

1. How did the film make you feel? What aspects worked well, and which didnt (think
about writing, the direction, cinematography, acting, editing and soundtrack)?

- The film is fascinating in all aspects especially the cinematography thats the
first one I noticed I was just like woah, this is great. This is film is great.

2. To what extent did it fit with your expectations, or did it fail them in someways?

- In my way of criticizing of an film, I dont expect because sometimes it might

fail you, relating to reality dont expect so you dont get to hurt. Lol. And I
believe that every film has its own uniqueness.

Structure

3. What causes major turning points in the narrative come?

4. Does the world of the film work the real world, if not what are the differences?

- Yes.

5. How does the film end? Is everything resolved? How? If not, why not?

- Its happy, the main character, Mija, got back in the mountains with Okja and
a little super pig. Thats the only things she wants in the first place.

Characters

6. How would you describe the main characters? What are their goals? What problems do
they face?

- Well, I think Mija and ALF theyll fight for what is right. They just want to
rescue Okja and other super pigs.
7. What choices do the characters make? What motivates them? What are the
consequences?

- Everyone is lying, they choose to lie. The characters are full of lies. Greediness
made them lie (referring to Mirando) and for K and Grandpa, they lie for
good. And the result of lying its get worst.

8. What do main characters learn about themselves, how do they change?

- I think no one change they stay what they are until the end of the film.

9. Whose point of view does the camera represent? (select one and explain)

- Mijas POV, it happens when she entered the slaughterhouse, she saw how
they kill and what other inhumane things they doing to the super pigs.

10. How is our attention drawn to particular images? How are particular visual elements used
as symbols or metaphors?

- Everything in the film is eye-catching but theres one thing I analyze, that
super pigs represents something in every character like for Mirando it
represents them money and wealth because its their business and for Mija it
represents as her best friend, because shes been with Okja since she was 3
years old, she can do anything for Okja.

11. How does the films editing contribute to the meaning of the film?

- Well, everything carried by the editing I mean editing will gave the film a
justice and everything the film needed. If I were to rate it 1-10 considering 10
is the highest, Ill give it a perfect score!

12. How does the film handle the underlying themes (morality, politics, religion, sexuality,
happiness, freedom, love, spiritually, identity)

- In morality, love and freedom the film shows what is morality, ALF tried to
save super pigs, they want to give justice to those super pigs and people
wholl consume the product. And Mija shows her love to Okja by fighting for
Okja until the end.
In politics, running business is hard to the extent theyll lie about they
products and people will believe them, same goes in politics because
politician theyll say everything in sugar-coated way but those thing are not
the real reasons why they entered politics, in short, Corruption.
Worldviews

13. What is the view of humanity? What does the film say about the nature of human
beings? What does the film say about communities and families?

- For me humanity is how you see things as right or humane. Theres a lot of
things that are in the nature of human beings one of them is being brave
when it comes to fighting for what is right. Sometimes friends and family will
hurt you but its not intended and at the end of the day they are the one
wholl stay with you.

14. What is the view of morality? What does the goodness mean? How do the characters
make moral decisions? What are the characters values and are these the same as the
films value?

- The extent to which an action is right or wrong. Goodness is how you express
being good. Some characters lied just to do a moral thing.

15. What good insights into life are there in the film? What does it get wrong? How might it
affect the viewers?

- One of the good insights is when Mija fight for Okja, fighting for your love
ones is in the nature of the people.
