Important information

DANGER
Risk of accidents due to uncontrolled movement of the vehicle
If the vehicle is not secured to prevent it from rolling away, it could begin to move. Persons could suffer
severe or fatal injury.
For this reason:
Measures must be adopted to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.

Observe the safety instructions. This document is not periodically updated. MAN Truck & Bus AG accepts no liability for damage
arising from out-of-date information in this document. Before commencing work, ensure that the latest document version is used.

DANGER
Risk of accident due to heavy components
Components with a high dead weight that are not supported and secured could topple over or fall down.
Persons could suffer severe or fatal injury.
For this reason:
Support heavy components and take measures to prevent them from falling down.

CAUTION
Risk of injury from equipment failure
For this reason:
Observe tightening torques during assembly work.
Do not mechanically deform components during assembly work.

NOTE
Risk of material damage from unsuitable spare parts
No liability is assumed for spare parts not approved by MAN Truck & Bus AG.
For this reason:
Only use spare parts approved by MAN Truck & Bus AG.

NOTE
Risk of material damage from unsuitable spare parts
Use of non-original spare parts may cause damage.
For this reason:
Check spare parts are suitable before fitting.

NOTE
Risk of material damage from AdBlue fluid
On vehicles with AdBlue fluid, the dosing system is blown clear for approx. 2 minutes after the ignition is
switched off. If during this time the vehicle's electrical system is isolated using the main battery switch,
deposits will remain in the dosing system.
Damage to the dosing system can ensue (e.g. blockage due to crystal formation or freezing of the AdBlue
fluid).
For this reason:
Switch off the ignition, wait for at least 2 minutes and only then isolate the battery from the electrical
system.

NOTE
Risk of component damage due to incorrectly tightened bolts
For this reason:
In preliminary tightening, use an impact screwdriver with max. 50% of the prescribed tightening torque.
The final tightening must always be applied manually using a torque wrench.

Tip for users

The repair manual describes by way of example the repair method used for removing, replacing and
installing the spring U-bolt on the right-hand side of the rear axle HY-1350. The working practice is
basically the same on both sides.
Pictures and the corresponding descriptions may not always correspond to the vehicle being repaired as it
was not possible to take into account all vehicle configurations.
In cases such as these, plan and execute the repair measures accordingly.

Tip for users

The previous nuts for the spring U-bolt are replaced by new versions. Spring U-bolt and nuts must always
be replaced in the event of repairs when they have been loosened once. This applies to both the previous
and the new spring U-bolt nut versions.

Removing the spring U-bolts

Park the vehicle
Take precautions to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.
Switch off the ignition, wait for at least 2 minutes and only then isolate the vehicle's electrical system
using the main battery switch.
Removing the spring U-bolts
Secure the air-spring carrier.
Unscrew the nuts 1 on the spring U-bolt 2
(three nuts 1 are not visible in the image).
Remove the spring U-bolt 2 upwards.

Installing the spring U-bolts

Checking the nuts
Tip for users
Two variants of the nuts are used.
Variant A has a smooth collar. Variant B has a
corrugated collar, see consumables. Caution,
both variants have different tightening torques.

Check the variant of the nuts.

Tighten the nuts 1 according to the tightening
sequence, observing the variants (the arrow in
the diagram below shows the direction of travel)
Nut 1 variant A/B M24x2... 1st stage: 75 Nm
on spring U-bolt 2. ............... 30
