Myth Reality

The products OEMs ship are OEM products are exactly the same as VMW SKUs. In My VMware, you cant tell the difference between OEM
and distribution licensesbecause they are exactly the same.
different from VMW SKUs from OEM vendors may have Customized ISOs for VMW products. Some OEM vendors usually include optimized
distribution drivers in the Custom ISO so customers get the full capabilities of both OEM hardware and VMware products.

OEM Licenses arent Customers can move an OEM license to any other system the customer owns with no impact at all.
OEMs vendors keep VMW SOFTWARE SUPPORT conditions on licenses they have sold even when customers
transferable moved those licenses to a different hardware platform.
Some OEMs may offer multi-vendor HARDWARE support even when the new server is not theirs, but this is not
the general rule. Please check OEMs specific Terms & Conditions related to their support services when these
circumstances are present.

OEM licenses cant be OEM licenses can be upgraded by the OEM, or by distribution.
OEM Licenses get full Subscription support from VMware.

OEMs dont provide L1/L2/L3 OEMs provide L1/L2/L3 support of their OEM licenses sold to Customers. VMware backs OEMs on L3. The
customers only call OEM, but they get the full backing of VMware to resolve any issue. The OEMs are always the
support face to the customer.

HPE & VMware OEM Software Rules of Engagement
HPE may sell VMware OEM software licenses when bundled with HPE servers. Base products must be sold within
30 days of server purchase. For policy on additional license sale, please contact your regional business lead.
VMware OEM licenses should match installed CPUs in HPE Servers (1CPU:1VMware) CPU= processor x86
installed in socket)
Additional CPUs upgrades for HPE servers may be sold with VMware OEM licenses (similar to a bundle)
When HP sells new HPE servers with at least 30 OEM VMware licenses, HPE may sell a matching number of
additional OEM VMware licenses. The VMware licenses must be ordered in the same End User Purchase Order.
Some SKUs priced on a per VM basis, rather than a per processor basis, can be sold without selling a server (ex.
Horizon View)
For Upgrades, customer must have the base product on a current HPE services contract and must have
registered for HPE support on the base product so that upgrade can be added to an existing service contract.
For NSX SKUs, VMware requires Channel Partners to achieve and maintain the VMware Network Virtualization
Competency. The competency requirements are outlined on vmware.com and

VMWare partners can receive OEM credit sales through VMware OEM Policies. Please contact

VMware Sales teams no longer involved in opportunity registration approval process (some exceptions
apply).
