STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

In todays world, many aspects of our lives rely immensely on the Internet and computers,
including communication, education, transportation, medicine, government and finance.
With the rapid increases in computing power, the advances of cloud and mobile computing,
and an emerging Internet of Things, a substantial amount of personal information and data
is being stored in personal and organizational computer systems. Owing to the rising volume
and sophistication of cyber security threats, the need to keep this information secure has
become all the more important for organizations since such a cyber security breach can
potentially result in considerable legal, financial and reputational damages to an
organization. This emergence of cyber threats, along with my ambition to become a subject
matter expert and one of the leading Cyber Security professionals in my organization, has
motivated me to further increase my knowledge on the current and evolving trends in Cyber
Security. I am a Cyber Security Consultant currently employed with Deloitte and Touche LLP
for almost 2 years. I wish to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Information Systems and
Engineering Management (ISEM), with a focus of on Cyber/Information Security, at
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology as it renowned for excellence in education,
world-class faculty and for its contribution of innovative new ideas.

I developed a strong passion for science and appreciated its novel ideas since childhood. My
interest was further reinforced by my active participation in science fairs and seminars
during my school days. My excellent academic scores at school level and my fondness for
science appropriately guided me to take up the science stream at the pre-university level
from which I drew inspiration to absorb the true spirit of engineering. Modern day gadgets
and their working principles fascinated me, which motivated me to take Electronics and
Communications Engineering as my undergraduate major. Today, we take for granted the
fine combination of human endeavour and electronic marvels of the previous years and the
most important, all purpose and undisputed greatest brain child of man - computers.
Realizing that these branches would be the foundations for the future, I set out in right
earnest to widen my knowledge in these fields.
My undergraduate studies in Electronics and Communications Engineering and graduate
studies in Computer Science and Engineering, have prepared me not only to understand
problems clearly but also to analyze them in different ways, think outside the box and find
effective solutions for them. Apart from augmenting the sphere of my knowledge, my
overall edification in engineering has raised my awareness about the practical aspects of
study and is responsible for my comprehensive development. An interest in research,
practical application of learning, creativity and a zealous thirst for knowledge and
perceptiveness are the very essence of graduate studies and I believe I have all these
qualities.

I started my professional career as a Software Developer in Factory Systems (Symbrium Inc.)

where I learned best practices and acquired a decent software knowledge which included
programming languages like C#/ASP.NET, VB6, HTML5/CSS3 and JavaScript, to name a few.
This experience gave me the platform I needed to switch my career to Cyber Security when
a highly reputed firm like Deloitte came calling. I joined the Identity and Access
Management (IAM) practice of the firm where I quickly came up to speed with the required
tools of the business. In the 20 months that I have been associated with Deloitte, I have
already worked in numerous State sector projects where I implemented IAM solutions to
provide security to mission critical applications and also provided project management
support. I have integrated and functioned with both small as well as large teams which has
taught me the significance of teamwork and perseverance, helped me become a tough
competitor and nurture a never say die attitude. I believe that I have demonstrated my
leadership qualities by taking up responsibilities voluntarily and being pro-active. I have also
on-boarded many of my peers and newly hired colleagues onto my client engagements and
provided valuable guidance to them. Additionally, I have been responsible for leading some
of the members of my team and setting objectives for them which highlights my skills as a
natural leader. I have also participated in noteworthy Cyber Security seminars conducted by
respected firms which were very beneficial and gave me surplus information about the rapid
progress made by the Cyber Security industry. My thirst for knowledge and relentless
devotion to stay connected with Cyber Security has inspired me in choosing to go for a
Masters in this field.
I am certain that my work in the Cyber Security realm with Deloitte, has provided me with
adequate knowledge of fundamentals which is necessary to take up Cyber/Information
Security as my specialization in the ISEM graduate program. I strongly believe that the
Masters program at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology will compliment my
current skills, in turn supporting my career goals and professional ambitions. It will also help
me stay in touch with the latest technological advancements. I am very eager to join your
esteemed institution and if I get an opportunity to pursue my graduate studies at your
university I will do my utmost to live up to its high standards and make positive
contributions to the university.
