SCHOOL AWARDS

In recognition of student achievement, certificates for honors, academic achievement, specials


services awards, and attendance will be awarded at the end of each term during Holy Cross
Recognition Assembly.

Principals Award:
A mark of 90% or above in the prescribed program for all subject areas

Honors Award:
A mark of 80% or above in the prescribed program for all subject areas

Award of Distinction:
A mark of 70% or above in the prescribed program for all subject areas

Academic Effort:
A student who puts forth a good effort into their academic program

Attendance Award:
Perfect attendance involves missing zero days for the semester, and year.

Special Services Award:


This award is presented to students who are not on the prescribed curriculum, but have achieved
academic success.

First, Second and Third Place Academic Awards:


This award is presented in June, based on the final results for the school year to the students
holding the top three averages at each grade level. Averages are determined from the five core
academic courses and the top two marks in the personal development courses.

Sarah Chollet Memorial Award


This award is given each year to a student who shows kindness, empathy and compassion
towards all staff and classmates. There will be a cash award as well as a permanent plaque to be
displayed in the school.
Student of the Year Award:
Male and female award winners each year. A permanent plaque is displayed in the school, and
personal plaque and cash award are given to the award winner. Selected students will meet the
following criteria:
- displays a positive attitude
- is an ambassador for the school
- is involved in the community
- strong academic focus - is working to the best of his/her ability
- is involved in extracurricular activities
- works well with others
- is respectful to all (students and staff)
- demonstrates leadership characteristics

Athlete of the Year Award:


Male and female award winners each year. A permanent plaque is displayed in the school, and
personal plaque and cash award is given to the award winner. This student will participate in the
varsity sports program, shows leadership initiative in the area of sports, demonstrates good
sportsmanship and participates in physical education classes.

Crusader Award:
This award is decided upon by the School Council. It recognizes any group or individual who
has made a significant contribution to the Holy Cross Junior High school community.

Instrumental Music Award:


Awarded each year to a Grade 9 student. A permanent plaque is displayed in the school and a
personal plaque is given to the award winner. This is awarded to a student who is a member of
the group, remains with the ensemble for the entire year and shows excellence in attendance,
performance and ability.

Choral Music Award:


Awarded each year to a Grade 9 student. A permanent plaque is displayed in the school and a
personal plaque is given to the award winner. This is awarded to a student who is a member of
the group, remains with the ensemble for the entire year and shows excellence in attendance,
performance and ability.

Guitar Group Award:


Awarded each year to a Grade 9 student. A permanent plaque is displayed in the school and a
personal plaque is given to the award winner. This is awarded to a student who is a member of
the group, remains with the ensemble for the entire year and shows excellence in attendance,
performance and ability.
Music Program Certificates of Participation:
Awarded each year to every student who participates in the music program in any way and
remains with their ensemble for the entire year.

Math Contest Awards:


Awarded each year to every student who participates in Math competitions such as Gauss, Pascal
or Math League.

French Award:

The recipient of this award demonstrates a passionate interest and high academic achievement in
French. This student demonstrates outstanding achievement in all aspects of the French
programme: reading, oral, and written expression and comprehension. Emphasis is placed on
consistent oral participation in and out of class as well as an overall positive attitude towards all
aspects of the French language.

Cross Credits/Awards:

Teachers may give these awards out at anytime to a student who demonstrates the
following:

R respect and responsibility
0 opportunity to learn
S support others and own learning
S - shows his/her best work
