CourseOverview:FundamentalsofmathematicsandExcelarenecessaryforastudenttopursuetheirdegreeattheFoxSchool
ofBusiness.Topicsandillustrationsarespecificallydirectedtoapplicationsinbusinessandeconomicsthroughoutthiscourse.The
overarchingthemeofthisclassistopreparestudentstobeproficientinareasofquantitativeanalysis,andtousethoseskillsto
solverelevantbusinessapplications.Excelwillbeusedtoreinforcetopicsandpresentsolutions

Excel: MicrosoftExcel2016willbeusedthroughoutthiscourse.Youwillbeaskedtobringyourlaptoptoclassto
participateinclassroomactivities.(Nocalculatorisrequiredforthiscourse,Excelwillbeusedasyourcalculator).

CourseObjectives:
Thiscoursewillenableyoutounderstandandapplyintermediatequantitativetechniquestobusinessproblems.Wewillapplythese
techniquesindecisionmakingsituationsthatrequirecriticalthinking.Specifically,bytheendofthecourse,youshouldbeableto
understandandapplyknowledgeoflinearandnonlinearfunctions,algebra,probability,andbasicstatisticalconceptstofind
solutionstoavarietyofcomplexbusinessproblems.YoushouldalsobeabletoapplyknowledgeofMicrosoftExcelanditsbasicand
intermediatefunctionstobusinessproblems.Inaddition,youshoulddevelophigherlevelskillsthatareapplicabletomyriad
problemsinbusinessandinlife,including:theabilitytoreadandunderstandinformationgiveninvariousformats(e.g.,graphs,
tables,figures,mathematicalformulas,orintext),interpretanddrawinferencesfromquantitativeinformation,solvebusiness
problemsusingquantitativemethods,andestimateandcheckyouranswersforreasonableness.

MethodofInstruction:Thecourseisdesignedtogiveyou24/7ondemandaccesstocontent,assignments,andlectures.Being
successfulinthiscourseputsagreatdealofresponsibilityinyourhands.Thecourseiscomprisedoftwocomponents:prerecorded
lecturesdesignedandrecordedspecificallyforyourclass,andlivecollaborativeclasses.Itiscriticalthatyoustayonpacewiththe
material,watchtherecordedlecturesontimeandperformthesuggestedactivitiesthroughouttherecordings,comepreparedfor
theliveclasses,doyourhomeworkuntilyouunderstandtheconceptsandoperations,understandtothepointthatyoudontneed
anynotesortriggerstohelpyousuccessfullycometoacorrectsolution.

MyITLabProjects(10%):AMyITLabprojectwillbeassignedeachweek.Eachprojectwillbedueat11:59p.m.onFriday.You
mayworkaheadandcompletealloftheprojectsatyourownpace,buttheymustbecompletedbytheduedate.Noexceptionsor
extensionswillbeallowed.TheseprojectsareallExcelbasedandaredesignedtoprovideyouwithsuperiorExcelskills.

OnlineHomework(10%):Anonlinehomeworkassignmentwillbedispersedeachdayarecordedlectureisdelivered.Youwill
havemultipleattemptstosuccessfullycompleteeachhomeworkquestion.Ifyougetahomeworkquestionincorrect,clickon
SimilarExercisetogetanewproblem.Eachonlinehomeworkassignmentwillbedueat11:59p.m.ontheMondayafteritwas
assigned.

ClassActivities(5%):Aclassactivitywillbeassignedduringeachliveclass.Theactivitiesmaybeindividualorgroup
assignments.Theactivitiesrangefromworksheetactivities,datasearch,toExcelapplications.Eachclassactivitywillbegraded.
Yourthreelowestclassactivitieswillbedropped.

OnlineChapterQuizzes(10%):Thequizzesarecheckinpointsbeforeeachexam.Youwillhaveonlyoneopportunityto
submityouranswers.Eachquizwillbedueat11:59p.m.72hoursafteritisassigned(youllhavethreedays).

Exams(40%):Therewillbethreeexamsinthiscourse.Eachexamwillbeadministeredinclass(seecourseschedule).Therewill
bemultipleversionsofeachexam.Youwillbepermittedtouseacalculatororgraphingcalculatorduringyourexams,butno
laptops.

FinalExam(25%):Acomprehensivecommonfinalexamwillbeadministeredduringourscheduledfinalexamtime.Pleasesee
