Reflective Questions
Inspiration for the questions: Social Justice: A Moral Imperative for Counselors
The author stated that counseling for social justice is a personal commitment. One step to live
this commitment is to establish a personal social Justice compass (p.2).
1. As you reflect on successful ways you are currently engaged in improving your
community. This could be in your family, in your friendships, etc., what initiatives stand
out as being exceptionally promising in living up this commitment the author talks about?
2. Think back through your life. Locate a moment that was a high point, when you felt most
effective and engaged as a social change agent. Describe how you felt, and what made
the situation possible.
3. Without being humble, describe what you value most about yourself, and your
profession. If you are new to the profession of counseling, what attracted you to it?
4. What would you most look forward to contributing? In class, I heard; stop human
trafficking, child abuse, etc.
b. What advocacy competency you feel you are practicing the most?
5. Imagine a miracle happened. You fell asleep for 5 years, and you wake up to find that
your community is exactly as youd like it to be! Whats happening?
6. What do you say are the social justice similarities among the ecumenical perspective?
7. After reflecting on your reading and answering the previous questions what do you say is
your personal social justice compass manifesto?
