1) SCOPE :
This procedure describes the method of surface preparation & painting process of the MS surface of
carriages & bottom CS plate of glove box.

2) EQUIPMENTS:
Following are the details of equipments to be used for painting process:-
2.1 Painting gun, Air spray
2.2 DFT gauge
2.3 Hand Tool
2.4 Asian paint Apcolite code-6118 light grey
3) PROCEDURE FOR PAINTING PROCESS:

1. Surface preparation:

The surface should be absolutely free from dirt,dust,grease,rust and moisture etc, so as to
obtain a clean, dry even surface, The following steps are followed.
1) Chemical Cleaning - To clean all loose paint, oils, dirt, rust and grease. Solvent like
RR10 or acetone media shall be used.
2) Mechanical Cleaning - Surface preparation/cleaning by wire brush grinding wheel to
remove loose rust etc.
3) Now, wipe the surface using cotton cloth and keep in dry condition.

2. Surface painting:

1) Cover the area that you dont want to paint with a masking tape,paper and/or cloth.
2) Apply first coat of zinc chromate primer paint on MS surface & allow it to dry for 8
hours (Approx).
3) Then apply the second coat of zinc chromate primer & allow it to dry for 8 hours.
4) Total DFT must be around 30 micron.
5) After complete drying, rub the surface by 180 grit emery paper, Wipe clean and
ensure that the surface is free of particles.
6) Now apply 2 coats of approved shade of paint (6118 light grey), so that to achieve
desired DFT 150 micron including primer coat.
7) Check the DFT of paint by DFT gauge.

4) RECORD:
After the completion of painting, the observed thickness shall be kept in record.
