1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this engineering specification is to provide designers and vendors
with the minimum technical requirements for purchase, design, installation,
inspection, testing, shipment, and documentation for indoor, nonclassified areas
of battery chargers for use in industrial installations owned by PDVSA.
Since PDVSA has decided to adopt the PIP (Process Industry Practices)
documents: ELSAP01 Battery Chargers for Station Batteries and
ELSAP01D Data Sheet for Battery Chargers for Station Batteries, as an
integral part of the Engineering Design Manual (MID), the requirements in this
document are additions or modifications to the ELSAP01 and the
section/paragraph numbers and the associated headings used in this document
correspond to the ones used in ELSAP01.

4 DESIGN AND FABRICATION

4.1 General
4.1.4 (Modification)
The charger shall be sized to provide a battery recharge time as specified on the
Data Sheet, from a totally discharged condition.

4.3 Input and Output Requirements

4.3.6 (Modification)
A battery eliminator shall always be provided (mandatory).
